R.I.P. Charles Louis Strouse (June 7, 1928 – May 15, 2025) was an American composer and lyricist.

    Charles Louis Strouse (June 7, 1928 – May 15, 2025) was an American composer and lyricist.

    Charles Strouse was born to Ethel (née Newman) and Ira Strouse and grew up in New York City. He graduated from the Eastman School of Music. He continued his composition studies with Aaron Copland at Tanglewood and Nadia Boulanger in Paris. He composed numerous musicals and wrote the music for several films.

    In addition to numerous nominations, he won three Tony Awards: in 1961 for Bye Bye Birdie, in 1970 for Applause, and in 1977 for Annie. He also provided the music for the 1999 television adaptation. Strouse died at the age of 96.
