R.I.P. Brent Hinds (ex-Mastodon) died in a traffic accident on August 20, 2025

William Brent Hinds, born on January 14, 1974 in Alabama, guitarist and singer, founded Mastodon in 2000 with Eric Saner, who left the band soon after.

With Mastodon, he released several albums until 2025, which initially incorporated influences ranging from sludge to progressive metal, later shifting toward hard rock and focusing more on melodies.

Mastodon was considered versatile, musically delightfully unpredictable, and won several music awards. Brent Hinds' guitar playing was also praised for its intensity and creativity.

In 2025, an internal dispute arose, and Mastodon announced an amicable separation from Brent Hinds, a departure he made less than positive.

He was involved in numerous other musical projects and also played small roles as an actor, for example in the series "Game of Thrones" (together with his former bandmates from Mastodon) as Wildlings.
According to reports, Brent died on August 20, 2025, in a traffic accident while riding his motorcycle. It is said that he was denied the right of way.

"We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief... last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we've shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. Our hearts are with Brent's family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone's privacy during this difficult time.

RIP Brent."
And here in translation:
"We are deeply saddened and heartbroken... Last night, Brent Hinds passed away in a tragic accident. We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that touched so many hearts. One of the best modern metal guitar player that did not sounds like everybody else. Too soon. This song comes to mind and it's feels different now.

Please watch for motorcycles guys. The woman who caused this accident failed to yield and now an incredible human being has been taken from us much too soon. It was entirely preventable

RIP Brent, you will live on through your music

 

I've had friends who died, saw others killed and decided to stop riding once and for all after it seemed that drivers were going out of their way to hurt me. It's amazing riding a bike but not worth it to me.
