Yeah. I guess I'm at that age now where all my heroes will start disappearing one by one. I do love me some Yes, that's for sure.

At the age of six, White began playing the piano.
He later switched to drums and was a member of several local bands by the age of 13.

Got to shake that man's hand. Told him he was the only person to upstage a Beatle with his drumming on Instant Karma. He just chuckled.

 

Yes is my father's favorite band. They were the first concert I ever saw, and I've seen the band and their various side projects with my dad countless times since I was a kid. This one hits me in a strangely personal way. May he RIP

 

His playing on Gates of Delirium was incredible, RIP.

 

This hurts. I met him on several occasions and he was a prince of a guy, one of the most down to earth "rock stars" you'd ever meet. And especially in that band... cough cough. But years of drinking hard left him a little frail. RIP Alan, one of the best.

I suspected you'd have crossed paths with him a few times. I didn't know he was a big drinker. I knew Chris loved his Cognac. Saw him in full flight one night where his storytelling made Rick look invisible.

 

I attended a Drum Clinic that Alan gave at a NAMM show back in the 90's. It was fascinating. Just a little sound booth on the show floor with about 6 people. That and I've seen Yes in concert 9 times. R.I.P.

 

I don't think he was later on...

 

R.I.P Alan. So many of us old time baby boomers are leaving, one day it will be our turn.
