    Hi Folks!

A few weeks ago i had the opportunity to record a fantastic Steinway & Sons Grand Piano.
During a 15 minutes break i "sampled" the instrument by playing C-D#-F#-A each octave and kept each key down for prox. 15 seconds.
At home i chopped up the samples and made 3 groups in KONTAKT. (Close, mid, far)
No EQ whatsoever and no post production. Only leveling all samples to -3dB.
I know i have sampled with only one dynamics (rather loud) but a little velocity sensitive LP-filtering does a nice job. (still needs some tweaking)

Now, i own a lot of (KONTAKT) piano libraries but non of them sound so realistic and transparent as this in 15 minute sampled "home brew" instrument.

Here a midi file played over KONTAKT with only a little extra (convolution) room.

    What do you think?

im really impressed how go this sounds for 4 samples only, but i bet it comes down how good the mics are you are using and because kontakt has really good pitching, you think it includes more samples, on which its based.

It sounds like a real piano in a small concert hall. Velocity and touch are remarkable.

Nice Piano sounds, it funny to me that you're able to get something sounding better than most paid sampled libraries. However, I could not tell how the bass notes sounded, from your demo. Can you play something from Rachmaninoff? IMO, the true test of a good sample library is the bass notes, are they clear of artifacts, unnatural pitching and does it come in loud and even? it's a keeper. I remember one time I had a chance to play a 9-foot concert Steinway grand and it was magical, the bass notes were warm and inviting the mids were graceful and pleasant and the highs were eloquent. I will never forget that experience, it's something you can never forget. That said, what kind of piano did you sample this from, b/c I bet you did it from something similar to what I played, The 9 footers are rare and epic and will never come close to anything out there. Also, the fact that you were able to capture a decent sample set on short break speaks volumes to your skill, Native Instruments should hire you. Heck, I would hire you! Contact me and we can talk.

We could make a crowfunding to support Arnold... to rent a steinway D etc.

Sounds good but there is one note that annoyingly sticks out every time it's triggered.

let's hear the same MIDI performance with other samples first?
