The question was how to overcome the Cubase limitation of 8 quick controls/one midi port for remote controls.

They are called Quick Control for simple control useage if you want full control use the other features.

The manual goes into great detail.

There is no alternative regarding to Device Setup > Track Controls and VST's without generic midi learn.
You are always limited to that options in this window (8 Controls/one Midi Port) per project unless you use progs like agent which allow internal midi routing.
I'm talking about real time automation via MidiShaper for VST's without midi learn.
