It's important to invest in a nice pair of shoes for this type of music because you'll be staring at them while you play.

For the first band, guitarist mainly uses a Fender Jazzmaster. Sounds like a reverb pedal with a shimmer setting.

Second band is a Fender Telecaster with a capo, with reverb and chorus pedals and/or fruity reverb and fruity chorus plugins from FL Studio:

Personally I wouldn't try to emulate the guitars I hear in this type of music, it's all too often too distant in the mix. I would try a semi-hollow or even fully hollow Epiphone Casino (Like The Beatles with Dear Prudence). I wouldn't want to drift along with the synths but contrast them, add a different colour to the sound.

One of my friends has a Line 6 helix also and really loves it, and then you get an old geezer like me attending jam sessions at bars and clubs, they all have the amps and sound equipment necessary. I bring just a guitar and laptop which gives me anything I need Effects , keyboards and synths all coming from my guitar in real time using Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2, no longer limited to just being a guitar player I can even pan between guitar and synth solos or blend both sounds simultaneously. Check out https://www.jamorigin.com it may just change your view on being a guitar player. This was the best purchase I've ever made. I have owned Roland , Ibanez and Casio Guitar synths but this software beats everything else that I used in the past. They have a demo to try, but watch the videos you'll have an idea of its full potential.

FK thats pretty damn impressive!!! its almost a cheat code on a video game thought haha. Like if you want to learn an instrument then you should learn the instrument tho xD. I mean if you dont have the time or the money to hire someone lets say for instance to play the piano then like just dont play it. BUT ITS REALLY DAMN COOL THO! I think its just more impressive if you can master multiple instruments and play like 4 others also :) thanks for sharing!!

this type of sound can easily be achieved with a little of experiment here and there, I couldn't think of any problem of doing it in the DAW world, blending FXs with clever panning and blending in layered tracks some reverb returns and what not.

but it is a whole different story when it comes to play live, if you play with a band and you have to replicate the recordings live.

For this type of music, guitar, amps, pedals and its selection are as important as the quality of the music you produced. Good thing is you don't have to be good looking for this music. These days with modeler pedals and simulator units like the AXE FX, Line 6 Helix and such, this kind of sound are easily achievable but if you play live with it, you will easily lose all the fans got zero respects from all that went to the show, let alone all the music nerds out there. 90% of them will be gone real quick without you ever realizing it. This music is a gear whore, pedal nerds, expensive hobby territory. It's not about getting the sound good anymore, you gotta get the sound super good with fancy shiny analog, vintage, limited edition, boutique gears that make others drool over to get all the attention you want. It's kinda tricky situation because using too much Strymon pedals also considered as lame and some even call it "cheating".

Everyone that come to the show will agree that the band that played before your band is better just because the guitar player carried a vintage unmaintained RE201 unit to the stage while you can only afford a TC Delay Flashback 4X that can do the exact sound, in High Definition but nahh it's lame. Brace yourself if you already decided to walk this path.

example of how cool guys look like, and read the comment section of the video :

I'm a strymon user myself, but it is a love/hate relationship. I like the sound quality and "polished" tones, but sometimes their pedals don't feel right to me, because I am missing more character, more corners and edges so to speak.

I liked your post because it's partly funny and partly true.
The one part you are missing out to me is the "feeling" or "playing experience". Of course I can only speak for myself, but to me it feels different to get this kind of sounds with some tricks in DAW or modelling worlds or to plug a Fender Jazzmaster into a Roland Jazz Chorus with just an overdrive and reverb pedal. I'm not a purist at all, no rating here intended, but it is a different experience however.

A multi-fx pedal board and an amp sim will be fine there is no reason to go down the rabbit hole. As will an affordable guitar that plays well.

Like I said initially it is a great to buy electric guitars and I think your price range is realistic and achievable for what you are trying to get.

As far as brands/new/used/pwned that changes place by place and depends on each individual person. I used to pawnshop dive now and then nut I go less and less but to this day I think over a 20 year period the only thing I've every bought from a pawn shop was a pocket knife when I went to see what audio and music gear was on offer. Use the friends you have around you that will go places with you to try out and play the instruments you are interested in.

As a personal belief I find mail order guitars and mail order brides to make about as much sense if you are shopping for your first or main bitch. Once you have one you like, then you can all your side bitches and bottom bitches from the internets.

I haven't been in one in years but I know that they reference eBay and Reverb and generally offer about 1/2 of whatever the transaction price is if they recognize something. Strat4Ever must just live near a really Luddite pawn brokers or the guy was doing a Mickey and knew what was up when he offered him whatever for his guitar.

I love this guys dreamy ambient tones.

This is a good example of how a guitar with two humbuckers and one single coil pickup can be very versatile. I have the very same guitar as well as a Strat and a telecaster among others and my Ibanez guitars are very versatile.

Also, Yamaha Pacificas are good guitars that also have a split coil which give more sound options. They start off cheap and go up in price depending on the materials used. I've been plying almost forty years and I was thinking about buying one as a practise guitar as they start off so cheap and I like the coil split option. I would hold off on buying an amp in favour of an HX Stomp.

To be honest, the best way STILL for any instrument purchase, is to go down to your music store and try a pile of them out to find which one sits with you best. The single coils in Fender USA, Rickenbacker etc are all good. That said, do not bypass the dual coils because some of them have the facility to switch between dual and single and the dual is a much fatter sound. You cannot beat playing any to make a decision no matter the instrument.

If you cannot play an instrument, the worst thing you can do monetarily is walk into a music store and get taken advantage of by the salespeople. 99% of them are just there to rip people off all day and don't know the difference either. 98% of them have never played the instruments they will talk about. They will tell you nice stories about how they play Alpha Juno they paid for by "mixing records in San Fran?!" and then not know what Pro-Q3 is. fuckin kids and ripoff merchants work at shitty music stores for a reason. do your research on here. Even my good friend Roland is a bullshit artist like this. it's fuckin embarrassing ;)

    Wheeee! Get the helix.

yeah, glad I managed to get all that for more than 10 years on the road carrying the stupid Pedaltank and Guitar flight cases. Hate every part of it back then (the only fun part is playing the show) but now yeah missed the feelings. Nothing can ever exchange that I agree. It is important to experience the real thing first before going to the DAW, so you understand how to create the sound. As an example this video below. Disclaimer, no disrespect to the guy, he's great IR & Plugin maker. The joke from the video aside, the way he set-up the sound of the Fender amp is giving me the idea that he never play with that amp live, no one in their right mind would set a Twin Reverb that way on live stage. EVER. If you played the amp on stage, at its near break-up on the edge at the loudest it could be, the amp doesn't sound that way!

Lol, funny that u mention Jazzmaster + JC120. It's the exact setup I have next to me now just to play some idea when I'm alone and no one else is at the studio. Have to admit 9 out of 10 times I will plug the guitar to the preamp/interface instead and run them through any amp sims.

If you actually learn how to play, you can look at the bottoms of some Jimmy Choos or LouBoutins. you know about that NYC stilletos.

This cat worried about some of Radioheads sneakers.

These aren't even red on the soles. I'd shoe gaze these all day, watching them go into a vault. damn.

"years ago" Stuff is meaningless. unless it is worth money. otherwise it's just another boring fuckin story from yet another nobody with a wishful story about unrewarded musical whatever and a tally of wasted money on chump change guitar gear. Because this is how Producers learn their craft or something. In 2023, guitar people get to touch the daw now? Yeah right. let's be honest. lol. They get the disconnected Mackie HUI to "mix with" while y'all laugh about it. There is no way they touch the daw Mac lest they go on a hunt for the start button. :)

Nice pair of bedroom slippers you got there.

If one plays shoegaze then I guess a decent pair might be a good thing...kinda like this girl I knew at university who was an awesome painter but was so poor that she would charge guys for sex to pay her rent and to eat. Sandra beautifully painted her ceiling with the signs of the zodiac, each symbolic representation more incredible than the next only so that she could have something to envision other than that job as she lay on her back for a payday. I inherited the room when she graduated (a chemistry major) and it was great to have her art up there.

nah I like history and not bullshit stories of grandeur. " remember when I took the mesa boogie to the show" etc etc.

money down a hole. guitar heros and junk gear. and nothing but some stories. Got a 62 custom Gibson, but yet here I am stealing software. yeah, sure. At least get your story straight because that stuff is laughable. These are what in another community we call leeches. Brag about a 65,000$ guitar and never kick down so much as a single file. And then not even play like a simple employed session player? I don't make time for this.

They actually make shoes with cameras pointing upwards, presumably for making shoegazing videos. I can't imagine another use for them.
