    Hi,
I recently bought a UMC204HD and have a rather loud popping sound when pressing/depressing the PAD button on either channel (something needs to be connected to the input for this to happen).

I complained about this to Behringer but their reply was that it's normal, it's the sound of the attenuation circuit engaging.
It's probably a valid explanation but I certainly would not call it normal! There are lots of devices (mixer, sound cards...) that have a PAD button that won't pop loudly! (right?)

So, I was just curious if it was a cop out from the after-sales agent for a defective sound card or if in fact EVERY Behringer UMC card has that problem!?

If so, I'm stunned nobody has complained about this! (could find anything on internet).
    Thx in advance,

    It's normal...
My Steinberg soundcards also do the same.

The issue is that volume is switched instantly like -20dB, creating a sudden jump. Sudden jump = movement = sound. The only way to fix this is to mute the sound for a short moment. It's a property of audio, and it works the same whether it's audio interfaces, mixers or software/plugins.

I own a UMC204, a FCA1616, a ADA8200, a Motu Ultralite MK3, a Hercules 16/12 FW and they all do the same way. Need to turn down the volume before any change, it's normal.:like:

    Yeah, it's normal.
You can press the pad button violently for about a minute or two to get used to the transient/spike. Then you will get used to it every time you press it (from now on). :)
