In 800 AD, poems sung to music were first allowed at Charlemagne’s court. In 855 AD, the earliest known attempts at polyphonic music were made. In 900 AD, the beginnings of part song in fourths, fifths and octaves. In 1970, George Clinton rode the Mothership down to give us Funkadelic. A few years later, Hip-Hop was on it's way. The progression of music has always been a struggle, many times repressed by The Church, The State, and the Monarchs. But music DID move on, in spite of the binding chains.

    Screw Putin !!

It's kind of a biased presentation of the whole deal, probably cause we're talking about Putin so people lose their nerves. Ah and the state of course. Awfull terrible state, with its public schools, its hospital, its court of law, its water and electricity network, and all those bad stuffs.
State controled music ? Yeah it can be, and it can be good and protective.
The market discriminates blindly and the state can put an order to it.
In France we have a law applied by the state which is called "cultural exception".
It's a law that protects local producers of music, movies from the law of the market.
Radio tv, etc have to play a certain percentage of French music, movies...It doesn't matter if it's popular or professional music or films, but it has to be French.

Obviously I'm not saying the state should control the content (but I'm sure anyone agrees if the state forbids a music that calls to the muder of a minority, either sexual or ethnic, like it does in most countries called democratic, and no one screams to censorship), but since music is always controlled by someone (majors, idiotic consumers, radio stations, and online distributors) and never on artistic criterias by the artist, well the state (in a democratic regime) isn't necessarly the worst player, if you're not being dogmatic about it.
I don't see in principle why it should be worst than say Apple or Spotify to decide (so ultimately add revenue, branding or whatnot).
You want those suckers to organize your election or the state ?
    Lol.

Err, in my country the state controls the content of any music. Means, we have a department that can refuse or stop a release due to crimal speach, so to speak. But it does not control only a certain genre.

It's more a mediatic side effect of thing - the focusing on rap lyrics - than anything else. It's the thing right now. Rappers have been getting sued since rap exists, and not just by the state.
The same principle applies in France for any genre, but no control a priori. People can obviously complain about content
It's extremely rare that it happens.
When it did it was always related to the "rebel" music of the moment. Rap now, yesterday punk, before that rock...
In France there is a great liberty given to artists, so the complains almost never lead to anything (specialy the ones from the states, except like in war time or something).
The only rapper that got his video removed in the last two decades was actually recently, a dude that was rapping about lynching white people, and showing it.
I suspect he was trying to make some kind of buzz.

    Does anyone remember this?
    https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tipper+gore+music+censorship
    Tipper Gore
"In 1985 Gore co-founded the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC)..."
"Snider said about "Under the Blade", a song Snider claimed was written about an impending surgery, that "the only sadomasochism, bondage, and rape in this song is in the mind of Ms. Gore." He stated "Ms. Gore was looking for sadomasochism and bondage, and she found it."

    From rt.com:
"Taking up a more serious tone, the President agreed that arrests of hip-hop artists and concert bans “give the opposite result to the desired one. Nothing good will come out of it.
However, he pointed out that there was also “nothing good” about obscene language and propaganda of drugs in the lyrics of many of the rap songs.
“Why do we need our youths to use drugs and why should we indulge the propaganda of drugs? It’s degradation of society; degradation of the youth; degradation of the nation. Do we want to degrade? he wondered."

It's the Lounge, not the Control Room

    Anything But

It's about freedom of speech. Don't like it don't listen

    Exactly!

The degradation of social consciousness is effective en mass on all levels, the key is to internally guide oneself to know the difference between evolution or regression thereof, and to take the necessary steps, individually and internally, to correct this path. One should never reach the realms of a necessity to be "guided" in any direction ...One should "know" the path toward enlightenment internally. It's the conditioned need for "external" guidance that prohibits self awareness, and ultimate evolution. Become the leader, not the follower.

For some strange reason beyond my reasoning, the media, the politicians, and almost all influential entities in guise of actual public influence, have cognitively projected their individualistic viewpoints and translations of the aforementioned dialogue, as truth en mass for as long as I can remember. And it's getting worse, as the grip of social control is slowly slipping away, and we are all becoming "less the fool" involved in the illusion of their "so called" truth
