Actually the term "fractal art" alone already helped me a lot, I really liked how these examples look, and it's easier to search for tutorials on that matter now that I know the actual technique name.

 

UPDATE: Found out that the plugins from mehdiplugins just work on 32bit systems. That's a shame since they seem to be realy useful for these types of artwork. If someone have a suggestion for plugins for photoshop that aim to make these kind of image distortions and pattern based repetitions it would be really appreciated.
