So, here's my two cents. ProtonVPN Free is great for basics, but if you're serious about speed, server selection, and unlocking those pesky restrictions, ProtonVPN Plus might just be worth the splurge. I mean, sure, it's not the cheapest option out there, but when it comes to your online security and privacy, investing a bit more can pay off big time. I recently switched to ProtonVPN Plus myself, and I've gotta say, the difference is noticeable. With their top-tier proxies and Residential Proxy feature, you can really fine-tune your online experience, especially when you're globetrotting. Give it a shot and see if it fits your needs.

if your going to China don't cheap out and get a paid vpn, and read up on VPN service. I'd google "best VPN for china firewall" if I was looking for one, not enquire on a music forum... you can go to jail for using a VPN in China, know what you are getting into...

I've used Mullvad and it's great. They dropped port forwarding though, so I switched to Proton to see if the grass is greener. Mullvad requires less personal information, but Proton is also very good in this regard. Mullvad is slightly cheaper

Technically and speedwise both are great, they handle my down/upload gracefully, the clients allow split VPN and several endpoints and so on.
Proton gives you encrypted cloud storage and encrypted safe e-mails (with random address generation! yay!), but it's a tad more expensive. Both are very communicative about possible issues, handy guides for privacy. Mullvad has the leak checker which is fantastic, but it does work on all connections so that's worth a shot whatever you use.

So I can only speak for those that I've used, but I can recommend them. Read about the Mullvad police raid for shits and giggles, their server was seized by the Police but the reports (by Swedish Law). Proton had an issue with the Swiss law, but it concerns e-mail and not the VPN.

    My two eurocents.

VPNs can be tricky for sure. My friend occasionally goes to work in China so he's limited for outside access. Last time we configured a domain fronting proxy with Tor (obfs4 if I remember correctly) and we're going to do and test the same thing this summer again. Not good for big downloads or anything needing fast connection, but access to e-mails and news sites etc. worked perfectly. If he needed files I could get them and put them up somewhere.

Something to consider. We also set up a canary to see if anything untoward happens from his comp, and my servers haven't been attacked from China... yet :disco:
