Hey guys. I posted a collaboration request for this tune and got a few takers, but only one followed through. I think they must have gone, "WTF?" after hearing it. haha! Anyway, FUNK U did come through and sent some tracks, but I had a question that he couldn't immediately reply to, so I assumed he'd lost interest also and asked a guy from Reaper forums who sent me a few tracks. FUNK U did get back in touch (thank goodness), so now I had two versions. Just got around to completing the mixes, and posting both versions. Camerondye on bass Carbon (V1) Chapman Stick FUNK U (V2) guitars Me: synths, "normal" guitars, AD2 proggin, and the rest. V1 Carbon: V2 FUNK U: https://app.box.com/s/fcz1tqkr40pa3cn79uam3e2cvsegqmig Linked to different sites since I didn't want double version on either. It's a fairly crowded tune, so please let me know if anything is "off."
Hey @lexeed. So the only question that remains is which version do you prefer and why? Like was one persons idea closer to what you envisioned or did you truly have no preconceived notions?
That's easy: I like your version because you rock out more and had some pretty intense moments. I like Carbon's verson because I've got a soft spot for that 'tapping' Chapman stick sound. I like both so much that I almost tried to combine the two. But that turned out to be a mess of too, too much, so I left them separate. Thanks a lot man for taking the time to do this. Glad you came through!
Cool. I'm glad you got something you like. Truth be told, it took me awhile to think of the different parts i could do over the bass.
Cameron got pretty busy on bass in places, so yeah, I could see that happening. Glad I didn't have to try it! I pretty much suck at leads anyway. I stick to my power chords or occasional riffs. All I had to do with the synths was arppeginate.
OH. MY. GLOB. This is just pure, unadultered awesomeness! goddam. This syncopations remind me of later-day King Crimson but more funky, in a very good way. Man, I'm speechless. I'm nowhere near your level of musicianship but if you want to collab with a vocalist/rapper, count me in. You rock, sir!
I find it IMPOSSIBLE to say wich version I like most. They're both perfect. I absolute love the guitars in Funk U's version. But also the groovin assault in Carbon's assault. Awesome stuff, mates.
Cool song! I used to play with a stick man back in the 90´s and yeah that sound Check out this great live recording ... great sound on the cd.
I always like working with different folk man. You got a page with some of your tunes? Very cool offer. I have to agree.
I've got most of Sylvan's stuff. WELL familiar with this tune and love it. But I haven't heard it in a while, so really appreciate vid.
@lexeed I have some pretty diverse tastes and have composed in MANY different styles. Unfortunately, I don't have that many stuff posted (yet). You can check some of my most normal stuff (in portuguese, although I DO sing and rap in english) here: 1 - A mix of rap and samba (my most "professional" track, so far. It's not my favourite, but people tend to disagree with my critiques of this song. make your own conclusion ) 2 - A mix of hard rock, afrobeat and rap, with a socially concious lyric. Too fast for my tastes nowadays, but I'm currently working in a 67bpm version of this. Wholly different. 3 - A standard "pop" tune (I think) about crazy homeless people, told in an elliptic manner. Here you can better check my singing voice 4 - Melancolic folk song recorded on crappy equipment (Or should I say "lo-fi"? ) 5 - More melancolic lo-fi stuff. And that pretty much sums it up. If you're up to collab on something, don't be afraid to call on me. I'm into pretty much any type of music. Sorry to kind of hi-jack your post Congrats again for your song. It is REALLY awesome stuff, bro!
thank you, @eboe ! This means a lot to me. At the time I wrote this song I was going through a depression crysis and the song deals with this heavy matter (mostly by postulating the "advantages" of disappearing, washed away with the pouring rain). Five years later it only goes to show: even the most horrible stuff can breed creativity and beauty. At least that's what happens to me. thank you for your kind comment, mate!
@BudSpencer Dude, you got style. I'm not working on any new stuff right now, but I sure hope the offer stands when I do get back to more music.
