When trying to install the ASSiGN 5.6.1 update of my Reaktor 5 package my PC locked up and I had to hit the reset switch and reboot the PC.

Unfortunately, this corrupted the update and so I downloaded the original ASSiGN Reaktor 5 package and used the factory uninstall that comes from NI in the R5 directory which cleared out all the remaining (corrupted) files.
Now, when I try to reinstall the basic R5 install I keep on getting the following message - "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error code is 2711."

I then re-downloaded the basic R5 winrar as I thought that maybe the download was corrupted.

Still no joy, the same error message.

It seems to appear just as the installer hits the "Computing space requirements" section of the installer.

Can anyone advise please as this is doing my head in?

Could it be that I need to hunt thru the registry perhaps to weed out any remaining entries for R5 that might be stopping the installer work??

Any advice gratefully received.

By way of an update....

I have managed to install R5 at 5.5.1 version.

I got this version from an earlier ASSiGN release (dated 1/10/2010) which was bundled with Prism, spark etc.

Interestingly enough, it used the old style, self written installer interface and NOT the standard NI one.

This all works fine now BUT the update to Vn 5.6.0 simply tells me that a previous version of R5 is not installed and halts the update!

Very strange!!

OK, cracked it!

The problem was that original install of 5.6.1 that was rebooted because it hung.

On installing the MS install remover App it immediately identified that any R5 install would be locked due to it being outstanding still in the Registry (not possible to simply search for "Reaktor 5" or sommat similar to remove the entries).

So, removed that defunct install then simple methodically went thru the install from 5.5. thru to 5.6.1.

All works fine now.
