    Hello!

To tell you the truth, I don't know if this is the right place to share this problem, but I'll go ahead:
Here it is, 2 weeks ago I ordered and received my very first sound card, the "Behringer UMC404HD".
My use is quite classical, I was going to use it mainly to connect my headphones, 2 speakers and a midi keyboard.
The problem is when I connect my DT 770 to the UMC404HD.
There is no sound coming out on Windows, the only solution to this problem is to change the sample rate when I launch a file or a video with sound (or a Spotify music) so the "Device in Use" message appear. I have to change the sample rate 2/3/4 times, it's quite random, and it finally works.

The other solutions I tried are:
    - I reinstalled Windows 10 (different builds such as: 1809, 20H2, 21H1), the problem persists on all its versions, so it's not a Windows related problem.
    - The most recent drivers are installed (5.12.0), the problems being already present under the previous version of these drivers (5.0). I concluded that it is not a problem related to the drivers.
    - My conclusion is that it would be a problem related to the sound card, because when I plug my headphones directly into the jack of my computer, everything works perfectly.

Here are the (brief) specifications of my computer:
    Ryzen 5 2600
    MSI B450M Mortar
    MSI Radeon RX Vega 56
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2x8GB 3200 MHz

My Windows sound settings are 24 bits/ 192 KHz, exclusive mode is enabled.

My questions are: do you have any ideas on how to solve my problem? should I return the sound card to thomann (where I ordered it)?

It's a very annoying problem, I'm a very patient person but the fact that I have to change the sample rate every time I restart Windows + the problem persists if there are no sounds in the background all the time (I open Spotify in the background with the volume very very low to remedy this)
And if I forget to put sound or music in the background the sound doesn't work anymore, then I have to redo the manipulation... yeah it's boring

I use DeepL because I am French and my English is honestly not that good :)

Did you try with a lower sample rate (without changing it back and forth)? If you...
...there's actually no reason for more than 48 kHz.

So.. is the UMC normally aware of whether the headphones are connected, so that it will turn off the speakers?
or are both outputs basically Always ON?

(I don't know how the interface works so it's a legitimate question..)

The only thing I can think of is that maybe, the possible switching system is fuskered,
because it doesn't detect the headphones, or because they are detected but fails to switch the internals..

Other than that, I guess the headphones are OK,
80Ohm could be less of a problem suspect than 250Ohm would be.. but still,
Does the same happen with a different set of non-pro headphones?

Can the Firmware of the Interface be updated?

Yes, it doesn't matter which sample rate it is set on there is the same problem.
I have to change the sample rate while some sound is playing and so it "refresh" the sound card I guess?

For your first question I don't know how to answer it since I'm a big noob, but in any case I disabled all audio outputs other than my headphones (see picture)
Unfortunately I don't have any other pair of headphones at home, unless 5€ earphones are suitable to test?
I don't know if the firmware can be updated, I just know that there are software drivers.

Yes any other headphones are good for a Test, specially the 5€ ones..

    However I'm now super intrigued,
how can a soundcard know the exact Brand and Model of your headphones?? :dunno:

I'm like so from the past sometimes lol..

I have a 404hd. It's great. The conflict, I think lies in the 'exclusive' mode setting or the Windows audio driver settings. Try setting BOTH drivers to same sample rate and bitrate. That should do it. Also, no exclusive, and free driver after use. I'd use Beringer support forum also. You're not alone about this

I followed your advice, is it fine now?
+ do we agree that the only way to change the sample rate is from the Windows settings (with this sound card) ?

this confused me, that's why I'm asking

Your "onboard sound chip" should actually be in the list. You should then set it as a "standard device". The USB audio interface only for the DAW and the standard onboard sound for listening to the radio, etc. This avoids hardware conflicts.

1.) Onboard Sound on MSI b450m Mortar not working properly
    https://www.reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/comments/ddoj8s/onboard_sound_on_msi_b450m_mortar_not_working/

2.) MSI B450m detects headphones, but no sound
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/90yl4wn3

    3.) Check playback device

First click with the right mouse button on the loudspeaker symbol in the system tray and select the menu item Playback devices.
In the following window, please first check whether your speakers are defined as the standard device. If this is not the case, you can do so by selecting the speakers and then clicking on Set as standard.

If this does not help, you double-click on the item Loudspeakers to open the Loudspeaker properties window. Here you navigate to the Advanced tab and choose another standard format. Just try something out here.

I disabled the integrated audio chip on my motherboard, so it can't be conflicting with the sound card; I don't see how it would resolve this problem if I re-enable it.
Also, it's not very convenient, I would have to unplug and replug my headphones every time I want to play music, or watch a series?

My Windows is already well optimized, I'm on my custom iso with stripped components.
Anyway, my Windows installation isn't really the problem because I tested on a stock Windows installation and the problem was still there..
I think there is something wrong with the sound card but I don't know what ngl

It's the other way around. Please activate it again and set it up as a "standard device".
This is how you avoid hardware conflicts. Windows is made for normal users. Different rules apply to musicians.

I have the UMC202HD and don't know if this has anything to do with it but the headphone amplifier is very weak.
I can turn it up all the way and it isn't loud enough.
Try your cheaper headphones because it might be the ohms.

Newest driver required 2 install attempts on my puter before it worked. Lost sound COMPLETELY on first attempt! Perseverance. Uninstall, reinstall. You can succeed friend.

Won't hurt, of course. But usually the issue will be "low/poor quality output", rather than no sound at all. Even with 250's, you can almost always hear enough to know some signal has reached the headphones. Sounds similar to when you go to an audiologist hearing exam. beep.
