Just contributing with my 80 cents: :drummer:

Is Apple's T2 Chip Ruining Music Producers' Recordings?

An increasing number of users are reporting issues when trying to record audio via certain audio interfaces on Apple computers that use the T2 secure chip. What is going on?

Yes, Hackintosh seems to be the only solution (installed on a dual boot machine, with windows 8.1 Pro) :invision:

I bought a fully loaded 17" HP (16x16, i7) a couple years ago and put PT on it, it has been a flawless experience!

I mean, it's not for anyone to tell anyone that their experience is "wrong", too much of the world is taken up w/ people trying to be right all the time. I feel a bit like your position w/ Cubase, although sometimes (once a year) I wish I had the time & patience to learn Reaper; when everything goes wrong w/ updates! I guess you're lucky to have enough cash to keep updating hardware w/ software, haven't been affected by these issues?

Anyway, most ppl I know use PCs, only PT user I know (my bro in law) switched from PC to OSX fairly recently (bucking the "trend") cos of many PC issues (which I had to fix for him). His Mac lasted a few months before he managed to break it, and he couldn't work out how to restore it. I swear his gold teeth are magnetized or smthn! Continual HD failure zone. Anyway, seems Apple's return policy was a lot of shenannigans - I dunno if you can clear up / know anything about that? He bought it in the EU, but buying it from one of their stores meant it wasn't covered by EU 2 years free return/replace, or something?

    Priceless line.
I'm afraid I'm the first to be tempted, but I try hard to escape from it.

I agree. Yes, I am fortunate to be able to keep up with my needs. But I must admit that I am stumped when I hear the issues some have with
their Mac's. Now I can't say I haven't had some semi-major issues...but truth be told I have always found a simple solution for them.
And I have never had a Mac dud on me ever! I own 90% of my software. If I like it I go for it. But, I do like trying before, no doubt! I've
never had any Mac OS issues that I couldn't resolve either, but then again some call me a Technical Guru. I just like solving my issues...
but that came out of necessity. And I can be extremely patient and I am a good internet researcher so I think that might have something
to do with it as well.

See, I have never heard of a New mac lasting only a few months, but I know it is a computing device so no manufacturer is perfect,
In the US I believe it's 1 year without the Apple plan and 3 years with the Apple plan. But it's been a long time since I have brought the Apple plan because I used to, but I have never had a reason to use it. So I stop buying it about 7 years ago. But if he purchased a plan, I'm sure it
    is a world wide plan.

I'd be interested in what went wrong..? If you like, you can PM me the particulars and maybe I can help find a solution.

    Be good.

Oh, he fixed it easily enough last year. Just HD failure I think, it happens. I tried to talk him through replacing a HD & restoring, but it was a bit beyond him. Also me! I guess it was a bit strange that he had to pay quite a lot of cash for something as simple as that. But he hasn't run into any problems since, so it's all good AFAIK.

For me, the main positive about OSX is the chance to try Logic, one of the few DAWs I haven't used, wonder what the stats say about the uptake. It's a bit expensive to take a gamble on it possibly being of use, but I don't rule it out, lots of ppl rave about it. I'm a bit more interested in OSX after learning it's based on Linux, I guess I always had this preconception it was some weird, custom, turtleneck-wearing bloatware!

  7. OS X is based upon Mach (kernel) and BSD, not Linux. But it still has a lot of weird, custom, turtleneck-wearing bloatware on top of it. IMO it mostly works pretty well. But a pure Linux or BSD system is a lot lighter, tighter, faster, and better-integrated. In comparison, Mac has a split personality where the BSD layer is for the OS, while the custom stuff is for the user. Since the system hides things and has certain requirements, you can't really lock down a Mac for security or tuned performance like on a normal BSD system. But there's a lot of great software, so it's a tradeoff.
