Pro Tools 2022.4 Released - Everything You Need To Know

new perpetual licences will not be available for sale after April 26th

There are now three versions of Pro Tools:

Pro Tools Artist - aimed at the next generation of entry level or budget-conscious users who don’t need all the features of Pro Tools. A third of the cost of Pro Tools and far more capable than the discontinued, free Pro Tools First. Subscription only. $99/year, 9.99/month.

Pro Tools Studio - This replaces Pro Tools (as opposed to Pro Tools Ultimate). It doubles the Audio Track count of current Pro Tools, adds surround capabilities including Dolby Atmos support via the Dolby Atmos renderer and introduces new virtual instruments. $299/year

Pro Tools Flex - For Audio Post facilities and high end music studios, this option’s software remains Pro Tools Ultimate and is required for HDX/HD Native systems. Pro Tools Flex bundles Pro Tools Ultimate with additional content and third party products which will grow over time. Among the new features in this latest version of Ultimate is a raising of the native IO limit from 64 to 256 channels making it very interesting to Dolby Atmos mixers. $999/year

So the headlines are that new perpetual licences will not be available for sale after April 26th. Existing perpetual licences will, of course, continue to function and new perpetual licences which are already in the sales pipeline will continue to be available via dealers but new licences will not be entering that pipeline.

I'm not against subscription model in principle - it allows me the full version of studio 1 for 10 a month and I can't fork out the full price for perpetual right now. But for the same price on pro tools you're limited to 32 tracks?? and they have the nerve to call it PRO tools???? they need to be taught a lesson because this is just pure greed against people they've locked in their ecosystem.

I think Avid's new policy is frankly unacceptable. In addition to an exorbitant cost, the inability to purchase a perpetual version is scandalous.
A help from R2R would be essential at this point.

I'm all for corporations making money but Avid is just not a good company. They feel entitled because they are the "industry standard ". Like others have said, I'm done with Pro Tools but I would love to see R2R smoke this one. But honestly I doubt Avid will lose too much money if it happens as the majority of PT users are pros who will always pay for what they use.

unbearable to listen to, sounds and looks like an impression in front of a mirror.

    protools is expensive so what?
i dont get the emotions, if he didn't like the subscription, he bought a perpetual licence, if not, he´s an idiot.:dunno:

not a pro tools user myself but i still care about this because it'll influence other companies' behavior and plans. as much as i want r2r to smack em in the face i also want them to do it right. so if it's an older version they have to release then let them test it properly before doing it. if they want to do a new version let them take all the time they want and need, because it would probably have to be a version we'd have to live with for a long time. but i agree that it would really be highly desirable for them to do it in one way or another, at some point in time, because i can't stand this kind of company behavior and hope that as customers we can incentivize other companies to stick with perpetual licenses and easy protection schemes.

They at Avid really care about your money, and if possible would like to have it all. If you're young and have 50 years of music career in front of you, you're only gonna have to pay 50 000 dollars for using this overrated software. :winker::rofl:

Logic for me any time of the week.
