You've been trying to pin a political statement on me for hours. That wasn't meant to be political, but rather a metaphorical economic example, since people who are starving or have no money can't become customers of DAW manufacturers, even if they wanted to, because they simply don't have enough cash...!

I'm not talking about generating profits. Take vets for example. Here in the UK it was never cheap to pay for a vet but now venture capitalists have moved in and six main companies own 60% of all vets. Prices are astronomical, people can't afford to use them. These sycophants are also lining up to take control of the NHS and move everybody onto an insurance system, but that's a political debate which we don't have here.

That's why monopolists are so dangerous. Ideally, like with DAWs, you have other competitors that ensure market-based prices. Of course, they will always try to win new customers and undercut the competition with summer sales, winter sales, etc. As they say, competition is good for business.

If you squeeze your population too much, they won't be able to buy certain things anymore because they won't have the money. That's where China comes in, because China has lower labor costs than Europe and they flood the market with cheap products. Then the EU tries to limit this through import restrictions, such as tariffs, which doesn't always work, as evidenced by trade wars and tariff wars. Now we have the storage crisis.

Theoretically, a DAW can't become expensive, because otherwise no one would buy them. As long as the competition keeps prices low, users benefit.
