No, you don't have to enable it again , just go to the plugin manager and "update plugin list", just like the picture I posted... And I think it's pretty obvious... I mean, you KNOW when you install a new plugin ;)

Cakewalk is definitely my bag of dicks.

 

Using S1 for the last nine years but I won't even try to convince anyone since the DAW is just a mean, not an end in itself:
I previously used Cubase and the first version of Reason released in 2000 but I settled with S1.

not mentioned is cakewalks superior IMHO sound quality for Kontakt instruments etc

i like using studio one i use it all the time but it does crash more than any other daw i used
it literally crash twice as much as other daws i used

one thing i do really like about cakewalk i like how they have all the scales integrated within the piano roll and its neat and organized....studio one fails at this poorly hardly no scales within the piano roll with studio one

If there is a perfect DAW, please , somebody point me to it. I've tried them all. None of them are perfect! So the option is to create with what you have OR moan about it instead.. me? I prefer to create stuff.
Life is way too short to spend it moaning about software!

 

I was on the Calkwalk Beta team. It was fun and buggy, but they fixed the bugs fast. I went to Cubase 7 and now Reaper.
I agree, Reaper so far the best for me for as you said stability/reliability reasons, It also is very light weight.

 

Just find the bag of dick you like, and get to using it.

 

Reaper is amazingly efficient CPU wise, I test all kinds of plugins on it, with a little more workflow improvement it could easily be the best DAW ever IMHO. I just wish it was more intuitive for my production needs, it's a little too Win 95 looking, lol, and I'm not a fan of the overall workflow.... but I want to be, lol. I stay up on it always secretly hoping the finally bring it into the 2020's.

 

I've always thought the best DAW is probably the one you start with and learn the deepest. Assuming it's reasonably professional.

 

S1 does has some flaws, but in the most aspects, it's very competitive. I also have used Cakewalk, Cubase and some DAWs, but end up I find S1 is the most suitible for me.

If S1 scan VST in every startup, you can uncheck the scan from options.

And in some cases, maybe your filesystem is encrypted, and you've installed your vst in those directory, so S1 has no enough authority to deal with activation or load that vst. You can right-click S1 icon, select "run as an administrator", to raise S1 authority to settle those things.

With your experiences and skills, you will know which vsts are the most stable, and how to keep S1 running without issues. It takes time.

Now S1 only bother me is, the transpose function. If I need to transpose multiple MIDI tracks to certain key, I hold shift then select those tracks to highlight them, then change the transpose number in the Inspector, that should change key for all those track simultaneously right? but that wouldnt work, it only works to the uppest highlight track, the rest are unchanged. This is the only thing I get confused.

I purchased Nuendo11 for video involved works, but S1 is keep growing, V5 has the listen bus, V6 has the basic video edit function, who knows the next, I love it and will keep support it.

 

No problems with Studio One. Disable ¨Scan at startup¨.

 

I think it's fine to not enjoy a DAW, but I don't understand why you want to make a switch when you seem to be already satisfied with your current DAW. Everything you described as an issue works fine here. There are a few annoyances, but every DAW has its drawbacks. Don't really wanna go into detail for every issue you mentioned, I just want to share how long it takes to open and scan my plugins on a gen4 nvme:

You're not in the wrong, bud. I use studio one for my raw audio recording mostly and I noticed several annoying things about it the last few years, which most of my issues have been solved but the issues you've mentioned are still there. The most annoying part for me was not being able to draw in my tempo... we didn't get that until somewhere in version 3 or 4 if im correct and I learned to stay out of studio one groups looking for help. I jumped to it from cubase (too many sub menus) jumped to that from adobe audition 3 (way more menus) and before that I had cakewalk LE because it came with a hardware purchase, but there was no real user support unless you paid for the full deal. I definitely wasn't about to pay for a DAW that I wasn't sure I could even use and at the time I'd never even heard the term DAW. this was in the early to mid 2000s and I just realized how long ago that was.

 

Yeah, you gotta watch STUDIO ONE and VST's. I lost a few sessions. I did manually remove VST's that crashed it, but they were good VST's, that are stable everywhere else.

Yeah of course. I enjoyed using it. It's laid out well and It seems to be maintained by people who want the best. It just is sensitive to 3rd party plugins. Plus, I found it drags a bit compared to other DAWs.

I have about 1,500 plugins and the plugin scan when Studio One boots only takes 8-9 seconds for me. Is that considered a long time? Doesn't bother me at all
