After what seemed like a hopeless endeavor, on a extremely helpful KVR forum page, it turns out in order to remedy the missing fonts issues, you seem to have to open regedit and remove entry folder "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts" (without the quotes)-- then R2R Play 6 should show the actual text!
