    1. This song wasn't even mixed well and absolutely not at the stage for being mastered yet.
    2. The mastering was horrible
    3. What did you expect from free "mastring"? A stellar mix or dynamics?

Hey! This song could be an 80's synthpop anthem: I'll remix it

I used several m/s and stereo EQs (static and dynamic) and compressors (again m/s and stereo). I can go and check which of them contributed the most.

Honestly I can't fix a single wav. Stems are needed, precision is needed. You can try to do a bandaid, but you'll never get a fix from it.

Still this is an awesome idea!

The original mix sounds better to my ears. :dunno: The mastered one is crushed, I have to lower the volume of my computer (something I never do these days).

That simple loud in the face snare drum irritates me.

Edit: Sorry! I was listening to this while my player was applying some wierd compression. It sounds much better without it!

I work as a mastering engineer and I'd say around 30% of the tracks that comes my way are mixed worse than this so no, you can't say this mix is impossible to brush up because that is simply not true. It might never sound a million bucks in this state but you could at least make it sound "OK" kind of. Regarding how hard it was limited – there are different standards for different platforms so yes, sometimes you have to squeeze it really tight and sometimes not. It's also a matter of what the client is after - loudness versus dynamics. And lastly, you can't look at a waveform and simply go "oh, there is no dynamics in this song". Visible, measured and perceived dynamics doesn't necessarily go hand in hand and perceived dynamics is really what matters the most in most cases.

Edit: By the way, of course everything that can be fixed should be fixed in the mixdown process but a lot of the times the clients can't fix it them selves and aren't willing to pay for stem mastering or for a proper mixing engineer to do the work.
