Hey there, just wanted to share these with you..

for a few years i used to dream about M-Audio MicroTrack II, but now i found ESI Rekord which is half the price.

I don't know if there's anything better, but i believe this might be interesting to AudioSEX members.

I do not know the matter, you need for this recorder. I use SO long Microtrack and must say it is complete shit. Sounds dull, lack of dynamic. Somehow I made a recording at the same position with Microtrack and Zoom H4. The last sounds FAR more transparent. I also tried time after time a lot of portable recorders: Sony, Marantz, etc... All these are just toys. I think if you need something functional (not serious) the best choice is Zoom H1. I tried it with no comparision though, but it is not much worse, than all above, and very cheap and small.

i think it's possible to get one for ~90$.
but after what i've seen about Zoom h1, i'd rather go with it instead of Rekord :dunno:

It is almost the same. The differences is so fun I would not dare to show them. :) BTW, both MT have a GREAT trouble with CF cards. The only way to be sure you get what you recorded is to use microdrive instead of CF. But also no sure for 100%.

I'd rather not to look for the ESI side. H1 is working as promised. This is the fact. Not the best, but as promised.

Wow, the Rekord M really looks audiosexy :wow:

I'm curious how it sounds compared to the Zoom H1.

I've been using my Zoom H1 for about 8 months now, and I'm absolutely satisfied.
It runs on a single AA battery, it sounds almost as good as the Zoom H4, and has dedicated hardware switches for WAV/MP3, bit rate, Auto-Level-Control, Low-Cut, Marker set during recording and, of course, input level and output level up/down buttons.
It records mp3 in bit rates up to 320kbps (Rekord: Only up to 128kbps which is a little low for mp3)
For WAV, it records with 16 or 24 bits at 44.1k/48k/96k sampling rate.
Also, it has an SD card slot which may be an advantage if you really need loads of storage.
It sets time stamps correctly and even has a built-in micro speaker which is good to have.
Its input is dual-function MIC/LINE level so you can connect almost everything that does not need phantom power.
Over the USB link it works like a USB drive.

For outdoor recordings I use the foam wind screen from my Studio Projects B1, and if I hold it steadily with 3 fingers it doesn't pick up audible "handling noise".

Can't say anything bad about it. Some complain about the plasticky finish, and yes, it's light plastic, but it's not low quality and I've been carrying it around in my back pack without any cover, and no problems so far.

I'm using the Roland R-05 portable recorder and i'm very happy with it.
As like the linked review states, fixed mic and flimsy display ... well, i can deal with that, as it's sound quality is great.
Just made recently some recording outside, while it was raining. Very natural sounding raindrops. You can attach some external mics as well.
Sure worth a test, for its price.
