For filmmakers, designers, photographers, and just about any kind of creatives, the public domain is an important resource, full of copyright-free materials that can be used and remixed to create new art. The legal intricacies of copyright and public domain, however, can be daunting, and finding specific pieces of footage, for example, from organizations like the US National Archive can be a tedious and user-unfriendly experience. Today (Jan 20), royalty-free video marketplace Pond5 launches the Public Domain Project in order to solve this problem, opening up to the public a massive, thoroughly-organized treasure trove of about 80,000 copyright-free video clips, photos, sound recordings, and 3D models.

One of the coolest things about this project is that, as with nearly any free resource, people will almost certainly find ways to use the Public Domain Project in ways we can't predict. We'd love to see projects like a supercut of vintage space footage, a film remix in the style of Woody Allen's What's Up, Tiger Lily?, or even a modern take on the nuclear bomb montage from the end of Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. All the clips are embeddable and many are byte-sized, so we may even see them sprout up as new memes and reaction GIFs, and hopefully many more projects we haven't thought of yet.

Aren't "creatives" supposed to create, not appropriate?

This is an example of why our talent, skill and creativity aren't worth any money to people who should (expect to) pay for it - and why no one is driven to come up with new ideas - anymore.

Pond5 is a "marketplace for creativity?" More like a junk yard for spare parts.

Rather localized frankly with "junk yard for spare parts", it´s a f+++ sell out.
Anyway, everybody wants to make more money ... how much longer will that work (for the fewest?)? Quite desperate affair for most poeple I suppose and worth to be discussed? I like bandcamp like sites and about free sounds ... well, you know ... just not so pedantic. There`s the cliche of "uncreativ creatives when it comes to money", but I think this has way more angles as to label it in simplest manner.
Thank you for the replies, really appreciate opinions on this cheap pimp shit & can`t or shouldn`t write more. Good night.
