It's not solving the issue, it's just sweeping it under the carpet.

The majority of people download... what they want, what is interesting to them, NOT the categories. I.e., those preset packs for their favourite synths, sample packs with vocal lines or quotes from old-school movies, tutorials for this only one instrument they play - name it.

Telling them to "use categories" doesn't solve the issue. They still need to scroll through a lot of completely unnecessary shit to find those gems they are interested in and that's the problem.

Get 'em combined. PITA and mostly just noise.

edit: just saw o-moon's post, wtf? I thought he was the one interested in doing it and now says it's too hard and that it would cause search issues (which now he's explained it I guess I could see happening).

In which case, lets just forget the whole thing and go have a nice cup of tea instead, yeah? ;)

that seems highly inefficient to me, if this were true then a few posts more or less don't really matter. i agree with olly, categories are there for a reason (and widely used everywhere) use them or get a sore finger

I think a better idea would be to implement some filter instead...so you can just filter out certain types of releases or releases with certain word in title.

Not being picky about language, but more about meaning... this is a bit obtuse, and vague, as is the explanation following.
People are putting down some feasible and reasonable solutions... would it be fair to return the denial with a little clarity at least ?

@LuckySevens the sophistry appears to be a wrapper for an anvil flat "NO" so there you go

  6. I don't know why, but I have different windows when I visit AZ depending on my hardware...on my tablet there is the Audiosex Feed over the window for Requests, and on my phone it is Weekly Top and then the AudioSex Feed underneath that. I would prefer the 1st incarnation. What gives?

i think that would be very useful and i personally tried to do something similar in my early posts, but now, with so many uploaders, this idea is completely impossible.

nevertheless, i'm aware that it becomes hard to navigate AudioZ as it became so huge and will try to present different options in the new version.

I suggest a simple tag system: By default, the tags
    [x] Software
    [x] Education
    [x] Video DJ
    [x] Requests
    [x] Black
    [x] Outdated
    [x] Lounge

    would all be enabled.
If you decide to skip any section for viewing, just disable the respective tag.
Everyone has his/her own preferences, and IMHO that's the most flexible and immediate filtering system.
I guess these tags already exist in the present CMS, so it might be rather straightforward to implement.
I would also suggest to store these settings in cookies.

I think it's easier to just ignore the posts you don't care about instead of giving yet another thing for Oly and mods to do at sister site. Are we really going to nitpick about extra scrolling now? Yeah I've missed many releases because the front page was cluttered by releases I don't care, but someone else cares about that stuff, so... I've got used to use the categories and search bar for this exact reason.

    My 2c.

The best workaround is to open the sections you use most, not the main page. It's only 80MB per browser tab guys.

Still the education one gets cluttered sometimes but you know the danger you're dealing with...

Do you imagine the size of the list from which you would have to chose?...

It probably is the "liquid-responsive-whatever-design" logic. It's the pretty name that stands for "it also works on small screens!".

I vote for the ability of filtering out by keywords in title or by category, too.

That would rock, but it would overload the web server. It's like the equivalent of oversampling x8 a plugin.

@fiction 's idea would barely (or nothing) increase the web server load.

So filtering out some categories would be useful enough for me.

Hm. About 35.000 would say (15 entries per page, 2375 pages)?
It's a lot, but it won't bring an SQL Server to it's knees.
But it seems to be not as easy to implement as one thinks as Saint said.
So we'll wait for the new version.

The server would only have to retrieve enough matching entries for the first page and "dynamically" generate further ones when requesting the next page. The whole amount of entries is IMHO only scanned when searching.

Personally I love the sense of anticipation. Scrolling through all the dross (academy fm etc) waiting for that nugget and if disappointed.....there's always tomorrow.

This was Olymoon's suggestion about my idea:

"That's interesting really... why not create a thread at Audiosex, so we can hear what other members think. If a lot agree with you, I suppose Saint may force daily packages, this is a better solution."

    So there...
