If you like Codec, check out some of the other plugins Lese has released. They make some niche effects, but they are all done with the nearly the same quality as stuff from e.g Fabfilter or ToneBoosters. My favorites so far are Glow (granulator) and Eigen (room/space emulator). Eigen is perfect for placing a source somewhere in a room and use that instead of regular panning. You can also create your own rooms and export it as an IR to use in whatever convolution reverb.

...make lossless sounds like lossy ? ...and it sounds like I want it too.
Lossy knows exactly what it wants, while OP's direction appears to be lacking.

I'm really trying to wrap my head around this thread, and I'm failing. But that said, many things go on in various genres of music that I don't really understand and I get that. But it seems if you wanted your stuff to sound like a lossy file you would just encode to a lossy file; why would you try to get that sound and still have a large lossless file size? It just sounds like you're trying to commit fraud to me LOL :woot::rofl:

maybe you just want a section to sound lossy. a pre chorus, or a 1 bar end of chorus transition. or maybe just the drums to sound like shit, and keep your synths and bass clean. etc etc. Plus the ability to tweak the lossiness is a bonus as well. Digitalis from Aberant DSP is highly tweakable, it even has a built in step sequencer that you can program lossy grooves etc.

Before asking here, I did a Google search and this was the only thing came up. I was confused about the keywords to feed into the search too. Their UI is very unique. I haven't tried it, before making this post finally decided too but couldn't find it at the sister site. Will do a search again. Thank you for this helpful input, your contribution is highly appreciated.

Hi tzzsmk. I was experimenting with the tape emulations and the idea struck me. And as fate would have it, the awesome community members suggested many tools just for the thing so as it turns out, I'm not the first one with the idea to introduce these specific imperfections. I always come second :((

Thanks bud, I tried the tool you linked to, fortunately found the x64 binary. But I don't think it's for me as I can accomplish the same thing with any graphic EQ. But nonetheless many thanks for taking interest in my thread and providing a valuable input, highly appreciated.

The thing I like about the most being here, the community is pretty humble for the newbie's like me. Thank you for taking the time and providing a tip. God bless you bud.

    Winner!!!!!

I think I'm gonna settle with this one for now, apparently it's made for just the purpose. Many thanks for introducing me to this fine plugin. Your help is highly appreciated.

Yes, I full agree Toneboosters make fine stuff. Will look into their other products and the fact they give more then for free. Good design logic too.

there is a book, "how music got free" that explains how the mp3 codec was designed.

    https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23398715-how-music-got-free

its interesting and covers a lot of ground including how cd were being ripped and uploaded before the were ever released.

If you want to understand lossy encoding this is a good source without being overly technical, and its a great read (or listen - I have the audio book)

good luck and I hope you find the sound you desire..
