    Hello,

Are there any plugins that make lossless sounds like lossy ? I searched and found only one from Goodhertz but their UI puts me off (personal opinion), not saying it's bad, it's kinda unique and it's just not for me. Are there any other alternatives other I could try ?

Please note: Not looking for Bitcrusher, just wanna make lossless sound like "clean" MP3 320 or 192 etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

    Many thanks.

I have never seen anyone ask this. But I think I would try using a Dither plugin incorrectly. Maybe Wave Arts Final Plug 6 has options for truncation, bitrate and shaping. Something like that.

I would probably use dbpoweramp to convert the file and then bring it back into the daw project, though. It's a very fast processor. But that would be the real thing.

Any Low-pass filter, Eq or a filter itself.

Izotope Ozone has a codec sim with a different bit rates. It's designed to aid in mastering, but It might do what you want.

The free Codec by Lese could be a good one for achieving what you want.

Seems like a neat trick, clone, thanks. I just encoded the project into V0 back into lossless and it sounds like I want it too. The only issue is can't really playback and decide into the realtime how much I want to trim. Anyways, many thanks for the trick and quick reply. Your help is highly appreciated.

Yeah that would do but I was hoping to also emulate the FFT artifacts associated with the lossy encoding, loudness reduction and all. Thank you anyways, God bless you bud.

Oh! I didn't know about it being one of the iZotope user myself. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and helping me out here. I can't instantly post an opinion as I don't have this software, will take some time to try it out and see how it fares. Guess it's time to head over to the sister site. Your help is Greatly appreciated. God bless you bud.

NI Reaktor, set instrument (FX) to your desired SR.

Thank you for the recommendation, as I understand it, it's essentially transcoding between different lossy codecs as @clone suggested. Is it not possible to emulate the artifacts and loss of quality without actually transcoding it ?

It's quite alright it's not. Transcoding can always do it.

    for what purpose?
MP3 (MPEG Layer 3) codec is designed for offline render, where whole waveform is recalculated and approximated by certain compression ratio, so you can't get very accurate results on any realtime preview like Ozone does

ok. i plug these guys any chance i get, and this is the best chance.

    https://aberrantdsp.com/

their plugin Digitalis does what you are seeking. It does it very well. Insanely good, tweakable, and creative. The plugin is extremely versatile, a very powerful and slept on sound design tool. All of their plugins are worth buying. Incredible dev, creating affordable, powerful, unique tools. Well worth supporting.

If I want a really FSU result with FFT I reach for the classic and awesome DtBlkFX (32bit and free). Have fun!

Edit: If you want 192kbps and 320kbps (which you probably can't even differentiate from lossless wav) then just add a brickwall lowpass at 16kHz.
Yeah, all DAWs and wave editors export 192/320kbps mp3.
Fraunhofer is dead. Long live mp3 format.

why not just re-encode the file at 320 or lower bitrate in any daw? you can save your original file in varying degrees of lower bitrate until you find the sound you are looking for..

Couldn't agree more! It's the best one I've ever heard in terms of musicality. Goodhertz Lossy is a close second.

Hi 4096, I'm sucker for imperfections be it saturation, distortion, tape emulation and now thanks to you streaming artifacts emulations too. One more tool in the toolbox. Many thanks for bringing this to my attention.
