Hello to the community and forgive me for my English, it's not my native language. He plays guitar in a band, and I'm always changing the guitar's tuning to accommodate the vocal, something like 1 tone at most, up or down most of the time. I thought about using some plugin for this. Since I use REAPER, I thought about REAPITCH. But I don't know if it's convincing. I want to try the KUASSA WHAMMO to see if I have better results. I wanted to know how you guys get on with this and which plugin do you recommend?

Never heard any digital guitar pitch shifting method that convinced me for anything other than creative effect. For different tunnings i'm affraid the only decent way of going about it is using different guitars, one for each tuning. That, or finding a tuning that allows you to do everything you need on it.

Btw, since you're just tunning up or down a little, is there a reason why you can't just keep the lowest tunning and accomodate all your chords or licks to that?

all of the recent neural dsp plugins (i think from the archetype john petrucci forward) plus the updated archetype plini x have a "transpose" knob that allow you to tune up or down 12 octaves and absolutely pass for sounding like the guitars were recorded natively in whatever tuning you drop or raise it to.

you can also use it with other guitar plugins as well by just disabling all of the modules except the "pedal" module in the neural dsp plugin and putting it before the other guitar plugin you prefer, in your chain. this way the DI only passes through the transpose knob of the neural plugin before it goes to, say your kuassa plugin (or whatever other plugin u prefer for your guitar tones). so u only actually need 1 neural plugin. although they are pretty much far and away the best sounding amp sims on the market imo and you can get pretty much get any gtr tone you're going for between their different releases. though they aren't the cheapest.. they do offer a 14 day trial on all plugins though.

also a bird told me that if you're a windows user there are many of the Neural DSP releases on the sister site for you to try before you buy as well if 14 days isn't enough. no luck for us mac users though.

Many of these r2r versions are listed as working in Crossgridder. I don't play guitar.

A capo doesn't work for non-standard tunings. If the software can do it, then it should be fun to play around with, sort of like Scaler for guitars.

The Roland V-Guitar system w/ the hex pickup, but not a plugin, and switching tunings on the fly is very weird.

I thought of this at first, but on the sister site there are only the first NEURALDSP releases.

a capo is a movable nut, it will work with any tuning,.
it only changes key by moving the nut up the neck. it will not change tunings mid-song. with the price of guitars, its usually cheaper and easier to own multiple guitars if you want different tunings, and that way you can have different strings on those guitars that might be more appropriate or pleasant sounding for those tunings. hell you can even have different gauge strings or mix them up.

I wouldn't get too lost in multiple tunings or Joni Mitchell might show up at your house to crash for a while...

I'm sure Serato Pitch 'n Time will do the trick. Unfortunately it's 800$
If you are on windows running Pro Tools, I'm *pretty* sure that you can acquire it via sister site.
If you are on mac, afraid you might not have any super-pristine options. Possibly Waves SoundShifter? (it's actually very good)

Just get a bunch of guitars and keep them in the different tunings for your need to accommodate the vocal. Who doesn't want a few more guitars?

Seriously though, put heavier gauge strings on that you might usually use on your guitar, tune down a whole step and use a capo on the second fret for your baseline normal and move around the capo to your need...or...make your singer take some lessons so they might squeeze that extra half step up or down to let you live in peace.

I mean you can't go from a standard to non-standard tuning using a capo, you can only change the key, but with software you could do it.

or a pain in the ass, you can retune a real guitar in under a minute. why would you want to have to deal with software?

For songwriting, the same way as I use Scaler. I chart my music after I have generated a new idea.

A Line-6 Variax guitar will let change to any pre-saved custom tuning at the turn of a knob. Different approach, same (but faster) results. I use the Variax specifically for non-standard tunings, sounds more realistic than a plugin to me.
