    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know why some plugin developers are adopting a style of making some plugin gui's look rather beaten up with scatches and dents all over the plugin?
I know it's all cosmetic and has nothing to do with the sound, as it's just visual and a matter of taste.
Personally it does not bother me, but I am curious.

    Two Examples

    Kind regards.

    :lmao:

They just do it cause its cool *yes*
Most do it trying to make their analog emulation more appealing. Most succeed in making it more appealing, not to make it sound good tho.
See Airwindows, innovative analog emulation concepts, no GUI at all, just Apple's Audio Unit system display, white background and sliders. That's all.
People think they're shit, it's actually pretty good. People think Slate stuff is the holy grail, I think its actually not far from being shit.
Great psychoacoustic tricks to fool listeners brains, tbh also some good job on a few of their algos, but mostly is hype.
    Dunno who's right tho. :)

"you can't polish a turd" apply here.

It's called Skeuomorphism… read the Wikipedia Article

These GUIs shall resemble real life objects and materials (metal) in order to trick you into thinking, "wow this feels so real", or "hey, I know what that is". And they also do it so that you don't get too many inferiority complexes because you cannot afford the hardware! It also sublminally suggestests: "you can get THAT pro Sound too – just buy this!" It's all psychological…

From a technological point of view some of the GUI decisions don't even make any sense. The manufactures sometimes even sacrifice controllabilty for looks. The analog devices were built to be operated with one or both hands. You can't do this with a mouse. Yet still, they do it in order to say, hey it's an SSL or NEVE or API model. Besides a NEVE EQ, I've never had my hands on the original hardware, so I can't judge AT ALL whether how close it is modeled to an original unit. But hey, it LOOKS good ;)

So, being the hypocrite gearslut I am, I'm heading over now to boz digital to check out their new Comp ;)

Rack gear has a tendency to get messed up and bent & scratched & that especially on the road.

Thing is it's a bit stupid coz not that many bands take FET compressors on the road.

However, keep in mind we talking about Slate so he probably like scratched it to f**k deliberately by throwing various drum parts at people & stuff

    @ Daisydd,

To look like as close as possible of their 'original' Hardware Units counterparts...

The same applies with some Instruments :

    @ User 137,

 In some sense, I'm agree with you, mainly because most of the Bands rather take some FAT during their Concert Tours, mainly due to the 'Beers', 'Hamburgers', 'Chocolate',...
Fortunately, for some of them, they can easily compensate that fact thanks to their many Female Fans !!!

OMG!!! Studio 555, Those guitars man look so damn good!

Don't care if they artificial! (10000% hypocrite myself like)

What make are they? Are they MiM's, Fender Japan (who make some seriously cool stuff!) Thing is the tremelo wrong on the strat looks like a cheapo to me plus the Selector switch wrong & the fretboard looks dodgy. Pickups look cheap also?

    Still looks mighty fine tho.

The Tele much better least the brass riders look nearly real. Who makes them? I want one (probably find out they real now lol!)

I must say they look far superior to Slate's FAT compressor & yes the female fans deffo more than compensation for the calories & Slate's outbursts lol

And I'm serious... By cons, you'll certainly be disappointed by their original sizes !!! :wow:

 That's why the fretboard looks bizarre!

Hey they look pretty good tho! Being serious!

Good enough for me!! Would fit nicely in my room! Just need to change the pickups & it's all good!

On the serious side once saw one of those models go for loads of cash on a site or somewhere was crazy! Was bizzare must have been a special edition or something!
