I really hope this helps somebody so that they do not have to spend hours scratching their heads as I did lol.

This morning I opened Studio One to suddenly find that none of my Plugin Alliance plugins would load. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I spent hours rescanning, re-installing etc etc. Nothing.

It turns out that suddenly Windows 11 Defender quarantines the R2Rpass file which renders all PA plugins non effective. All I had to do was restore the file and set up an acception and it was fine.
For those of you that never have an anti virus turned on, you should be fine, but I just wanted to put that out there because I am sure I will not be the only person who has come up against this.

I would also like to point out that Defender also suddenly quarantines a bunch of plugins I have had on my system for ages. Kush for instance. So check your Defender history for any sudden issues.

I had the same thing, but it did not apply to Plugin Alliance. but with other software. Microsoft Defender moved the files to quarantine, gave no message. It seems that M$ is going bonkers.

 

Always place crack-related files (dll, most of the time) in Defender's exclusion list ...

 

I ruined my day today with the same problem. Damn Windows Defender. They are hacking my computer

 

They ignored the exclusion list and quarantined the file. Strangely, that's what happened today. Upon checking, it appears that other r2r pass sims have also been isolated.

 

A wild guess, someone reported these files to MS as explicitly "malware", and the links to questionable activity are kind of obvious. It's not like MS is gonna send an R2R encrypted message via a warez forums to explain themselves

Not defending (pun... intended?) Microsoft here but with this shit it's a rock and a hard place, considering the security shit they've certainly not helped in the past...

I just don't run Defender. Haven't ran it in like 15 years. Defender is a needless nuisance. And spyware. I do manual AV scans if my firewall ever catches something weird.

At some point, Windows Defender decided to silently and against my explicit exception for the file reset my hosts file to default. I didn't notice until a couple days later. Windows will sometimes update Defender and force-run it even if you have another AV solution. I'm not bothered enough to look into fixes, but I'm now double checking my hosts file integrity after every Windows update.

 

This happens on Mac also. I think it could be related to different crackers using different methods. It never happens immediately after installing something new. Normally it will de-authorize a majority of the plugins, but not all of them. I've had one of the newer Bettermaker plugins do it (I think the EQ), Kiive also. I do not use PA stuff frequently enough to pin down the precise culprits, or reasons why some get locked up and others do not; because it is a delayed occurrence. If I had to take a guess at it; based on personal experience, I would go with mixing stuff from different releasers.
