Instead of starting to write a boring essay, all I want from you is to erase the concept of the Loop from your mind.

This concept seems like a dangerous virus to a composer. I don't know for the first time which ignorant person introduced this concept into music, but I ask you to try to defeat this virus, because as long as this virus is in your mind, you will never be able to better understand music.

Please, I beg you kindly ...:beg:

Tell that to Run DMC, Jurassic 5, Pharcyde, Prince Paul, and the countless other Hip Hop sampling masters turned legend...

An artist is not what tools he uses.. but what he makes with those tools...

Don´t get me wrong, i´ve been in electronic music business for more then 20 years before i quit... I can absolutely stress thiss piont, forget loops when you´re trying to think outside the box. Loops will limit you in varios ways... use them later on as spice for your creativity

One day I sold my soul to the devil and stopped ending my musical phrases before the first beats of the bars. The musician died but the producer was born and flew away.

I use loops, I have to admit it. I used to hate loops and never considered using them until recently. I browse through some loops to find something that kick starts an idea, and then start to break it apart. I extract pieces that I really like and use them as either themes or to spice up sections.

Hmm... Interesting Comments above I too use loops as spice but I also use them as inspiration to start writing
You get a good groove a basslines or a complete loops for inspiration then develop around it
so just like salt on food loops can be good or bad ... Just my humble opinion

Do you mean loops as in samples or you mean loops as in thinking of your ARRANGEMENT as 4, 8, x bar loops? I can agree with the second interpretation, in the sense, don't think of your arrangement as loops placed in a certain order, because it locks you in a bit. that can work for trap/hip hop(because the focus is completely on the vocals usually), but it doesn't always work in other genres because it can get repetitive.
I completely disagree with the first interpretation though. When I started out, I felt the same way to an extent, but it takes amazing levels of creativity to sample shit and make it interesting throughout the track. Kanye is a goat, no denying it.

    I mean:
    • Constant Tempo
    • Constant Rhythm
    • Constant time signature
    and by and large
    • Constant timing

Time is a very important component in making music. When the time parameters are kept constant, the music will eventually lose its appeal.

We have to learn to play with time.

    PS:
When the time parameters are kept constant, the whole music becomes a loop and we have to fight anything that makes the music Loopy.

End of topic! NONE of this relates to loops! hahaha.
Loops can be, as per classic Hip Hop, a constantly fluctuating bpm due to the original way we would chop loops before time-stretching.
And in any cutups looped in this way, especially from vinyl, there is no constant timing! Just samples butted perfectly end to end.
"This is a very important component in making music."
You have to "learn to play with time."

You are just referring to bad, unnatural sequencing.

@Olymoon Please close thread, as OPs premise for thread title is based on misunderstanding and lack of knowledge and experience.

    @Epcot
Regards your explanation of constant timing etc being related to loops,
I am not prepared to engage in a conversation with somebody who gleefully boasts about their own ignorance.
You are the loop you despise.

When using loops, you are in fact using somebody elses musicianship and from that you are basically constructing a musical jigsaw, where all the shapes have already been made for you; and you then step back and say what a wonderful musician/producer you are.

Does painting-by-numbers make you a portrait artist?

Truely, learn your craft and accept you may be one of those people that just doesn't 'have it' and never will - but you may be the next world tidly-winks champion - who knows.

The vast majority of truely original music ended in the late 90's since then... pfft!
