hi,i was able to have cubase 14 pro running, and play a video on vlc and hear the audio from the video, but for some reason i cant now.
the video plays while cubase is running, but i cant hear the audio in video, unless i close cubase.
i know there is a setting somewhere either in cubase or in windows.
can anyone point me in the direction?
    thanks

Just FYI, Cubase will import that video (audio and all) to a track in the timeline so you can work on mixing additional audio for the video (or just play it with the audio). The video will play in a separate window in cubase and you'll have access to the audio as a regular audio track.

It sounds like you have the audio driver locked when cubase is in background which will cause issues with anything loaded parallel to cubase that wants to use the audio card. Just go into cubase audio connection settings and enable the "release audio driver when cubase is in background" setting. That should alleviate your audio issue.

Incorrect, this is typical of ASIO4ALL users or in general people without a dedicated audio interface. Been using Cubase for 20 years, I don't have this issue.

In Cubase Studio>Studio Setup> Audio System 'Release Driver when Application is in Background' I believe is what you are looking for. Try change and click 'Apply'. . I have it unticked and can hear Cubase and all other sounds. I think with being ticked it will stop sounds from Cubase when you click out of it

Well whatever OS options are available, I think it's best to have an ASIO router, like Voicemeeter or (IMO better) Asio Link Pro.
Then all shared audio problems are solved.
