    Paul van Dyk - Appreciation

Paul van Dyk December 16, 1971 in Eisenhüttenstadt as Matthias Paul) is a German DJ, music producer and radio host.

Van Dyk is one of the most famous and successful DJs in the world. In addition to his activity as a DJ, he is also a music producer, has released eight studio albums and remixed songs by international artists such as Justin Timberlake, New Order and U2. His music can be classified as trance, but he himself prefers the generic term "electronic dance music".

While DJing at the A State Of Trance festival in Utrecht in February 2016, van Dyk fell from the stage. The six-meter fall resulted in a double fracture of the spine and a traumatic brain injury. The cause of the fall is believed to be a faulty stage construction.

After hospitalization, van Dyk released a message thanking his entourage and fans for their support and saying that he planned to perform again from June 2016. However, he had to spend some time in a wheelchair due to neurological disorders and learn to walk again. Likewise, he found it difficult to articulate himself and had to learn to speak again. He digested his journey back to the stage in his book Staying in Life, which he presented in March 2019.

In 2018, the promoter Alda Events finally paid the DJ eleven million euros in damages for the stage fall. On March 11, 2017, Paul van Dyk and his Colombian girlfriend Margarita Morello got married in Cartagena. They now live in Berlin-Friedrichshain.

    For me its another way:

When the main melody is reprised in a slight more transitioned way, its amazing!
These music videos from back in the days, love them.

Last year i had an urge and listened to his older albums, masterpieces, which shaped this Berlin sound.

Are there any DJs who don't pretend to twiddle knobs? Seriously, I'd like to see a genuine DJ who only touches the equipment to actually change something. Not really criticising him, it's just show business and he's trying to make it look like it's a live performance.

    Bring on the down votes...

I can still mix with a pair of SL1200 Mk3 manual turntables. No Serato, no nothing. The problem though is a 45 minute mix will take weeks to rehearse and leaves me needing to sleep for an hour after. It is SO mentally draining..

PVD was no ordinary dj, just like ATB or Johan Gielen style, his sets were unpredictable and full of energy ...he is one of the gratest dj's in dance music and he will live forever there ...

Armin (He works with Benno now, but he knows how to produce!), PVD for sure, MIKE, i could name here countless people (techno, trance, dnb).
We all know Tiesto, having no clue about producing for a very long time, not sure if he does now?
(Ghostproducing is still a very big thing sadly in the whole scene across genres :( )

Most of them came from producing and then well djed - there is nothing wrong with that.

Well if your own tracks out and people like them, its a matter of time till you also get gigs.
If you see PVD career in a retrospect you will it wasnt easy in the beginning, coming from east germany and establishing his sound over the 90s, early 00s.
