DW8 I features 1.7GB of 24-bit samples from the underrated and often overlooked Korg DW8000
synthesizer organized into 32 NKI based presets. Released in 1985, the DW8000 is a hybrid synth
that uses digital sound generation followed by a true analog filter which produces a wonderfully
glassy and sometimes Lo-Fi sound that is not quite like any other. Included here are long filter
sweeps, rich pads, strings, leads and bell sounds, all of which the DW8000 excels at. Also present
is a very nice marimba patch that has a separately controllable spring reverb layer which was
recorded key-by-key from a vintage AKG unit the size of a small refrigerator.

The downside to the DW8000 was its single data entry slider which made programming cumbersome.
In contrast, DW8 I utilizes Particle Sound’s Carbon interface which allows direct and intuitive control of
sound parameters by way of 100+ sliders, knobs and switches. The Carbon interface is based on a dual
layer design with individually linkable sections and a dedicated Global/FX page. Each layer offers a
choice between 6 different multi-samples with sample start point modulation, a mixable noise source
    and a multimode filter. A complement of 2 full envelopes, 1 attack/release envelope and 2 LFO’s are
also available and can be assigned to a variety of internal parameters.

Each layer also includes it’s own controller section where 2 assignable parameters can be controlled
in varying amounts by a single knob for easy mod-wheel or aftertouch assignments. A global FX section
rounds out the interface with access to up to 6 simultaneous effects for the final polish.

    Features:

    - 1.7GB (uncompressed) of 24-bit samples from the DW8000
    - 32 tagged NKI based presets featuring glassy pads, rich strings and percussive sounds.
    - Intuitive Dual layer interface with individually linkable sections.
    - Each layer offers mixable noise and start point modulation with 6 different multi-samples to choose from.
    - 1 AHDSR, 1 ADSR, 1 AR and 2 LFOs.
    - Selectable Lp, Hp, or Notch filters and an assignable controller section.
    - Global sample shift and scaling accuracy sliders.
    - Global FX section with up to 6 simultaneous effects.

Korg DW-8000 is neither underrated nor overlooked. At least as far as I know. It's one of the rare synths I only loaned for a time when I needed it, though. But consider that I had a full room of synths at the time with Roland Super Jupiter, D-20, PPG 2.3, Korg 707, Polysix, Poly-800 and Delta, Roland Jupiter-4, Promars, sh-101, juno-106, 808, 303, 606, Kawai K1, Arp Axxe, Oberheim Matrix-6 and even I cannot remember what else. :) [I do: Korg Wavestation, Akai S-950, and Ensoniq ASR-10 ;)] Those were the 90s - times when great rave parties and techno flourished. All we missed at the time was cheap [TC ;)] multiple I/O audio interfaces like we have today and Reaper. It was all controlled over MIDI by an ATARI Mega 4 with Cubase 3.1 and the audio outputs were mixed with a 24ch Mackie console. FX "plugins" were Roland SRV-330, SDE-330, Yamaha SPX 90, Lexicon MPX-1, Some ART Guitar FX, DBX-160, Drawmer 241 compressors. Monitors were Tannoy PBM 6.5 II and some Hi-fi Akai speakers, Yamaha and Akai Amp, and Akai GX-65 cassette player, Akai CD-55 and plattenspieler.. It was a nice setup. No total recall, though. <-- huuuuge disadvantage. :(

Anyway. You can never emulate any of these synths with Kontakt. Those who think Kontakt can emulate anything are so wrong. For emulations, stick to dedicated VSTi emulations. Kontakt is for playing sample libraries and that's it. Or you can make your own sounds with it, of course, like I do. ;) Not many people use it as a standard sampler/synth and it's great for that! You don't need no stinking libraries... just samples, knowledge, and imagination. Be freaking innovative ffs!

    Cheers :mates: !
