    Hello

I have recently had my Output Platform desk completed finally after 2 years.

I am wanting to know if the space between the dividers will accommodate a 19” rack mount or if I have done this slightly too big (see photos)

The measurements shown are in cm

    Any advice is appreciated

    Thanks

    19-inch rack ( " 48.26 centimeters " )

"Inch" is actually an English unit of measurement. 1 inch is equal to 2.54 cm. 19 inches then means 48.26 cm. 19 inches is actually the international standard width that this electronic equipment must have in order to fit into a so-called 19" rack. Virtually all manufacturers of professional electronic equipment adhere to this standard.

A height unit, or HE for short (U for unit or RU for rack unit), is a unit of measurement for electronic housings. It describes the height of a device, e.g. a server. 1U means one height unit, 2U two height units, etc. 1U corresponds to a measurement of 1¾ inches, i.e. 44.45 millimeters. Enclosures in HE design are installed in racks with 19" width. 19" corresponds to 482.6 mm.

Rack stuff comes with overly wide screwing holes which should allow you to compensate a little bit, but i'm not sure you can compensate a whole cm.

Anyone any suggestions as to how I can fix this issue? Tbh I’m pissed at the fact that they’ve done it too big

use longer screws for the rack rails. use washers to fill in the space between the wood and the rail. or just use more wood.
huh huh huh huh. he said wood.

It's not that bad, just add some extra wood between the cabinet and the railings and call it a day. if you have 9mm plywood laying around that should be enough. Screw it to the inner side of the cabinet, sand the sides so it looks flush with the cabinet's plywood and you're done.

I have some birch plywood laying around somewhere that is 5mm thick, so two of those on each cabinet side

Before you start gluing or screwing in the new wood, test it with a 19 rack unit first.

cutoff saw for the L brackets and a titanium drill bit for your holes. it would almost be easier to make your desk fit the rails than find ones that fit perfectly. There is always a decent amount of play, if the rails use Square holes cut in. If they are screw holes, it is less forgiving on your measurement.

if you punch square holes instead, you use these clips that go inside the hole which then contain the threaded part your screw goes into.

Also I have measured the gap between the desk and the shelf it measures 14cm. If I use 1U it won’t amount to 14cm

This is basically what I mentioned, where you need the clips too, for the square holes. They are cheap. You need M6 screws and cage nuts (Amazon tags them as for servers). I think they are nicer because I move things around in racks sometimes, and it makes it a little easier. But I doubt OP cares...

Then all you need is a cutoff machine/saw to chop them up into the correct length.

@mk_96, I have some plywood laying around at what the callipers said was 5.43mm thick...this is my calculations at the moment (see photo). This is for the width of the gap, and the height of the gap.
