I absolutely agree with your sentiment, however; much of the things we deal with in the Audio world are based on Physics and Mathematics; both of which are always 100% provable by a correctly constructed equation, measurement, or experiment.

it's worse when you know this, to see how far some people will go to bullshit you out of your dollar.

This cocky dude makes some valid points, but he is wrong about headphones not increasing risk of ear fatigue. You have to be more careful with cans on your head . . . mindful of volume and duration of listening. I have tinnitus from headphones, not monitors. ;-)

And, adding frequencies by boosting an EQ plugin is certainly more risky than cutting/reducing. Additional artifacts can be introduced by adding, not as much by taking away.

I'm thinking Boomers have some valid points . . . and so does he. I think they are both half correct.

Boomers actually mixed more diverse tracks back in the day . . . not much diversity nowadays, unless doing indie underground stuff.

...watched up to the part where the dude started talking about mixing with headphones. the rest of it was too ridiculous to bother with.

A really good set of reference cans should be a part of every day mixing AND mastering used in conjunction with your room playback system. However doing a complete track record, mix, master all completely done on cans is ridiculous. Listening to homes rambling on there, it didn't sound like he ever heard of room treatment, room tuning, or corrective room eq.

As far as "loud being better"... If you have a track with subtleties in the mix or even just lower mixed ornaments, backing vocals, percussion, etc., slamming a track to 0vu leaving your track left with all the dynamic range of a pile driver, will lose ANY/ALL of those lower volume, carefully balanced elements in the weeds. This seems to be something no one gives an actual crap about anymore no matter what genre of music.
