    Hi Audiosex!!

I'm starting to get a lot of new software that won't install and I get the now famous "out of memory."

since my PC is pretty old I'm starting to think about getting another. I'd hate to buy another old Pc that is slightly better only to get that same "out of memory" trick.

There are many posts about High level PCs, Top Specs, and all.
Maybe it's time to look at the low end stuff. (My PC is available for 100 euros!)
Who has the oldest PC that doesn't get "out of memory?"
    i5 and up.

    my system summary:

Every PC will get "out of memory" when the memory is full. The question is how much memory do you need. If you don't have enough, you can upgrade it in many cases.

The Compaq Elite 8300 SFF supports up to 32 GB of RAM.

My music production PC is an i5-3570 with 16gb ram. Not once have I gotten an out of memory error.

It still runs Windows 7 though and isn't internet connected. Also my daw projects are small and without much complexity.

It all depends on what you want to do, but the above states that there is not very much room for anything?

You probably could get 8.00 GB extra for this pc? But I would really advice to move on to a newer system with at least 16GB.

Thanks a lot for all your contribution. now it seems like a no brainer! I come from a time when 1 mb of ram was a great innovation.

Ask yourself this. Do you need state of the art software to complete the tasks you need to create for? Because I guarantee you, nobody cares about the state of your computer, only that what you create sounds good.

There is plenty of software available to you that will STILL not run you out of memory with the specifications you currently have!

Don't forget, you can bounce stuff to audio as well. This uses up only the memory it needs to run the initial plugin.

16GB of RAM should allow you to work comfortably under most circumstances.
If you're working with orchestral libraries, you should look into getting quite a bit more RAM, however much you can reasonably afford.

I'm surprised you're struggling that much with 8GB though.
Have you tried closing a bunch of programs you're not working with and tabs in your browser?
Or maybe even less RAM-hoggy plugins/programs?

That is for sure. I certainly don't need anymore new updates or anything. probably forever.

I'm not struggling. I have never topped out on REM.

    It's some new vsts like:
    Waves.Complete.v2022.09.12.Incl.Emulator-R2R
    Fuse.Audio.Labs.Plugins.Bundle.v2.3.0.Incl.Keygen-R2R
    Kush.Audio.Omega.A.v1.1.0-R2R
    Reason.Studios.Reason.v12.2.8-R2R
    PSPaudioware.PSP.Echo.v1.5.0-R2R
    Sonalksis.All.Plugs.Bundle.v3.2.0.Incl.Patched.and.Keygen-R2R

and several other tha't won't install. during the install I get an "out of memory" pop up.

8GB is not enough for newer software these days.
Imagine opening like 20 webpage in chrome/opera, depending on the webpage you open 20 times, the RAM can be half occupied by your browser.

Now imagine using plugins like Omnisphere, nexus, etc, which rely on samples, easily you hit 8GB in a DAW setting.

Solution is to bounce to audio and deep freeze (if your DAW can do that)

or upgrade RAM to 16GB or more, if thats still possible, bcs the cpu look a bit old.

If you delete Waves and use other plugins, your PC should be enough for making music. Or you use an older version of Waves.

    AMD Quad Core
    AVX Support required

Minimum: 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
16 GB free disk space on the system drive

8 GB RAM is enough to install everything.
Out of Memory, do you have some concrete examples, screenshots would also be helpful.
Most of the time the out of memory problem is not caused by the RAM but somewhere else.
Are there any memory hogs running? Check the autostart?
    Virus scan?

Sure it, but people tend to have open browsers, explorer, etc, so RAM is already filled up. Solution is to really close everything in the task manager and then install the things you need.

I would clean up the autostart thoroughly. Have you ever consulted the event viewer?

    Manually managing the Windows pagefile

Here’s how you adjust the virtual memory settings on Windows 10 (the procedure is similar for older versions of Windows.) The goal is to set the pagefile settings so that they are large enough to handle the size of all simultaneous VirtualAlloc() calls made by every CL.EXE process that is trying to load a PCH. You can do a back-of-the-envelope calculation by multiplying the size of the largest PCH file in the build by the number of CL.EXE processes observed in the task manager during a build. Be sure to set the initial size equal to the maximum size so that Windows never has to resize the pagefile.
    1. Open the Control Panel
    2. Select System and Security
    3. Select System
    4. In the Advanced tab of the System Properties dialog, select the Performance “Settings” button
    5. Select the Virtual Memory “Change” button on the Advanced tab
    6. Turn off “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” and set the Custom size. Note that you should set both the “initial size” and “maximum size” to the same value, and you should set them to be large enough to avoid the OS exhausting the page file limit.
    https://devblogs.microsoft.com/cppblog/precompiled-header-pch-issues-and-recommendations/
    workaround

To work around this issue, manually configure the page file size. To do this, proceed as follows:

    1. Press the Windows logo key and the Pause/Break key to open System Properties.
    2. Select "Advanced system settings" and then select Settings in the "Performance " section on the "Advanced " tab .
    3. Select the Advanced tab , then select Change in the Virtual Memory section .
    4. Uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives .
    5. Select "Custom Size " and then set the "Initial Size" and "Maximum Size" values for the paging file. It is recommended to set the initial size to 1.5 times the amount of RAM in the system.
    6. Select "OK " to apply the settings, and then reboot the system. If you continue to get "out of memory" error messages, increase the "initial size" of the page file.

I know for a fact that one installs just fine on a system with 4GB RAM, even with a DAW and browser with 20 tabs in the background.
There might be something wrong with your system.

Available memory is physical RAM plus virtual memory. Do you have enough SSD storage free and have you set any fixed limit on virtual memory size?

only tiny wall in autostart, never a browser open, I added about 3.5 virtual gig to ram, fresh restart... no dogs aloud!
    same problem.
must be something with my system. I'll study the event viewer.

I can recommend the free Sysinternals Process Explorer, now hosted on the Microsoft site.
