Following a loooong thread about some famous composers and many arguments, i remembered a few scores-soundtracks that were composed by bands or individuals, just because the director knew that he wanted that particular sound. To name a few

Danny the dog - Massive attack

    Michel Vailland - Archive

Les ailes pourpres - The cinematic orchestra

    Taxi 2 - Sons animaux

Lovely bones - Brian Eno (roxy music)

    Underground - Goran Bregovic

Chico y Rita - Bebo Valdes

Feel free to add more soundtracks-scores made by bands or musicians (not film composers who are known as that).I'd like to learn about more scores.

Interesting thread. I'll start by adding two german musicians.

Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen is a name you probably never heard. He was a member of the band Nena and wrote all the songs, most known one is "99 Red Balloons". He's still doing projects like the Nena reboot 8 years ago and others. But he also makes a lot of soundtracks.

Reinhold Heil was keyboarder of a band called Spliff (yes, pun intended)

, well known in Germany in the 80s. Today he's mostly working on soundtracks. He teamed up with Johnny Klimek, an australian film composer, and you get them only as a double pack.

The spliff video was supposed to only be a url, but it seems youtube urls are automatically embedded:drunks:

I find game soundtracks very good but doesn't get me. But for some reason the Max Payne 1 and 2 sound amazing despite it's old.
However, this is the soundtrack of my life:

By far, the best and only soundtrack that I could ever hear in my life, it's on top of every game/film score in my opinion. I even thought several times about doing a topic here just to get some help with those sounds. It's one of the reasons why I got into production.
