If you want to be portable for a whole day and USB powered but also be able to do really serious work, get a MacBook Air M1 (2020). It runs the DSP56k emulations perfectly fine and you can do whole productions on it.

MacBook Air M1 oh yeah. Those are awesome. The only I reason I would go windows is there's a certain realm of plugins I'm used to.

Been digging around, seems like most people recommend MX Linux XFCE for those Atom notebooks, seems it supports mixed efi boot's. Recall I had to deal with something like that when trying to install Linux on Macbook 1.1 which got 32bit EFI, don't really remember what I did, but eventually I managed to pull it off, but battery drain was severe, maybe it work out better for you.

Some years ago I had a similar convertible as yours, a Lenovo Ideapad with intel Atom CPU 4 cores, but 4GB RAM, running Windows 10 64 bit, so I know what we are talking about. That thing was slow as hell, the eMMC drive was so slow that it felt like a 15 years old laptop with mechanical hard drive, every Windows update was taking ages. It was ok for watching videos, playing music, writing texts or web browsing, but even that was laggy.

The MacBook Air is a real computer that can handle nearly everything besides gaming or heavy video editing. All plugins I need are available for macOS, which ones are you missing? For Windows only stuff I'm using Windows 11 arm with Parallels Desktop which works surprisingly well. I installed Audio Gridder in it and so can run Windows VSTs in Logic Pro with a bit of latency which is okay for mixing.

Personally, I like the slim design of the "old" M1 Air much more than the newer ones, but would strongly recommend to go for 16GB RAM and at least 512GB SSD.

The tablet is fun to use. It can use the latest version of Firefox, and play 4K videos with no lag. I occasionally use it for bouncing Imposcar, Toxic III, or V-station sounds. I mainly use a 10th gen Lenovo laptop as my daily driver which according to Cpu-z is faster than a 4 Ghz 4790k both in single and multi core. Its blazing fast with the M.2 Ssd. The battery is a bit worn down and now lasts about 1.5 hours on high performance mode. The tablet battery lasts for 4 hours unplugged but I usually plug it into my Suv usb port and so it can last as long as my car battery lasts. I forgot to mention I got Osirus working on a 2008 dual core 3.3 Ghz LGA 775 computer of mine awhile back. It works well.

    Here’s your answer….

Use your more powerful laptop over USB-C via this, you can get ones that plug straight into the cigarette lighter but it’s easy to swap it out for this and make it permanent

I need to get something like that for sure. The 10th gen laptop isn't usb-c though just regular power adapter. I could get a cheap 400w inverter on amazon.

Inverters aren’t that efficient, using an adapter via the cigarette lighter is much better

Ok, maybe it was a bit off topic, but you asked how to run the DSP56k emulations on your 32 bit tablet, and it simply is not possible, even if it would run a 64 bit Windows, because the CPU performance is way too low.

For me (and many others) the MacBook Air M1 (and other Mx models) were a real game changer in mobile work, because they are so power efficient.

Using a powerful intel Windows laptop in you car will drain the battery quite fast.

If you plan on doing this, be sure to buy a "pure sine wave" inverter and NEVER EVER a cheap "modified sine wave" one, which can decrease the life span of your notebook adapter drastically or even destroy it.

Your notebook power adapter has an efficiency of maybe about 80-90%, also the inverter has an idle current and efficiency of about 80-90% depending on model and power needed, so it will reduce the battery life even further.

Simply put, I was never happy with real mobile use of laptops until I switched to the Air M1. I can easily work for 8 hours on battery or a whole day and more with an additional power bank.

You can get cables that adapt any brand laptop to accept USB-C, I’ve tried them in the past and they work fine

Actually I'm not so sure about that because I got Osirus working well on a dual core LGA 775 3.3ghz once. Atom quad core might even be worse than that dual core so who knows but it was worth a try.

    +1

It's amazing laptop, have zero remorse for getting it over Ryzen 5600G build I had planned, it's true mobile solution, powerful, light, thin, backlit keyboard, extraordinary battery life, rock solid system performance with Apogee audio interface.

My SUV has 2 usb c ports and 2 regular usb ports plus a 12v cigrette port. Will the usb c ports be sufficient to power my 65w lenovo laptop? I bought the right sized power adapter from amazon and usb c cable. This is the adapter I bought. Thanks. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CR7C85B6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

If the built in ports aren't powerfull enough I will buy this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B3CSLPZR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AKXVBT49GGF3B&psc=1

    Cable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MQ4KZ27/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AR1T6THSKR9XB&th=1

A simple USB-C port does not say anything about the power it can deliver, and I highly doubt it's a powerful PD implementation in a car. But how should we know this? Look at your cars manual.

USB-C PD has a protocol to handle out the voltage delivered to the device and the maximum current it can deliver, it can be 5V, 12V or 20V, 1,5A, 2A, 3A or even 5A. These cheap adapters just trick the source to be 20V. And if your laptop overloads the source, nobody knows what would happen. Do it at your own risk.

I cancelled the amazon order because I thought maybe there is a possibility of a voltage spike or it could undervolt and damage my computer.
