Hi! I watch a video about "Phase Tips & Tricks" from KSHMR on official Dharma Worldwide website.
To look about phase problems on the low end we use osciloscope but with Ableton and my hi-end PC I always see a lag between the vst time ruler like 1/4 and the visual waves.
GPT tell me this is a common behaviour due to some kind of latency but what makes me crazy is that in the video (pics1) there is no lag in the KSHMR video and in the pics 2 (my PC) there is a lag....
I don't understand why! If I use the Oscillo from ShaperBox it's exactly the same!

 

do you sure your kick is tightly on the grid and the sample itself does not have silence in start of it?

 

Check your midi note is perfectly aligned (with quantize).
Use a default preset as starter (may be you changed some setting).

 

I test with a new Live set and just one audio track without any plugins and the timing is perfect. So even if I still don't understand really why if you open a projetc in Ableton with a few tracks with VST you will have a lag due to any kind of "latency" but don't know why the oscilo's vst don't manage this behaviour...
More on this because I have a good CPU motherboard and only a dozen tracks on the project... ?

Of course if I change the audio buffer latency on my Audient iD24 there's no changes.

It drives me crazy because if I want to align the phase of my kick and bass, it's not easy to do it by ear, and the visual aid of the oscillo was welcome, but if I doubt what I see on the screen, it's distracting.

OKAY gyuz sorry for the inconvenience but this stupid behaviour was due to Ableton option setting call "reduce latency when monitoring" and if you put it to off it's all good on visual with VST.

And also you must put and use your oscillo in first place of the vst chain if not you will see lag latency on screen. And so sidechain the kick pre-FX... but even pre-FX for example Kick 3 vst have 2 or 3 ms latency so it maybe influence the visual waveform a bit so maybe I must compensate and accouting for this in any way for making acurate phase alignement!
