Optimal FLAC Settings?

    If you are looking for a sweet spot between lossy and lossless, I suggest Wavpack. It's lossy mode is highly transparent (comparable to LossyWav) and compresses much more than FLAC, and faster than MP3/Ogg/Opus to decode when loading projects. It can also support lossless audio, and 32-bit depths at that.

    DAW support isn't great but at least Reaper and FL Studio support it.

    A flac file encoded to 0 (no compression) or to 8 (max) will sound the same. The only difference is that the process to encode to 8 will take (in my old spec computers) a couple of seconds longer than doing it at 0.
    All the flacs on my computers are encoded to 8, because I am a poveretto with no cash to buy another HD.



    EDIT: It´s sad that my all time music format was the now defunct lossy MusePack. Its quality was just incredible, was open source, extremely fast encoding, very good quality, but had really no portable players' support, no hardware would play it, and very soon the development stopped. Still have some .mpc files around.
