hmm i think the concept is really great of the new browser, i warmed up to it. It doesnt seem to work well with folders added to collections, then i have no visible tags from the stuff in the folder i did add. I am sure there are bugs in the browser - maybe they get fixed.

If tags and Collections are usuable together flawlessly, then for me the new browser is one of the best features!

The good thing is that the m4l devices have received the non-blocking assignment wonder Bitwig feature, keep it up

How can people be used to the browser when it breaks organising VST2 plugins. It doesn’t show the Creators at all unlike VST3

i was mad as this was removed it, but tagging every plugin again and then select the tags is faster than the way you could organize VST2 plugins in the folder structure.

Remember you can define your own tags, select multiple tags for a plugin. its great once you did set it up, which might take ages, if you have to many plugins installed.

Why didn’t they scattered VST3 plugins? It would be much easier to tag if they kept VST2 Creators.

I had to add them to the Creator tag. If you select VST2, click Edit, highlight the VST2 plugins, then select the Developer under Creator, it will work. It takes time but it will work.

Or make your own Groups for tags and sort differently by FX and Instruments, or whatever. It's actually way more customizable now which is kinda powerful but the old way was easier to see everything.

If you don't see your developer name in the list, scroll to bottom and +Add Tag...
soundhack didn't show for me so I added the tag. If it doesn't show all your plugins, hit the 'Clear' button in Results. Buggy, but still beautiful.

You don't need to stop or rename Index.exe. You have a analyze button on the bottom, just stop that and it stops the indexing/analyzing

You have to weigh the options of staying with 11 which in time will grow old & die or jump on the band wagon & learn 12 and stay up-to-date.

    It's quite simple actually:
1.In Preferences -- Disable Similarity Search Analysis [File & Folder] -- Disable Show Packs/Cloud/Push [Library]
2.Remove Duplicate Plugins. [If you're only using one DAW than just use VST3 & remove duplicates from VST2 & AU folders & clean the logs & registries -- use Plugin Uninstaller -- https://www.widebluesound.com/audio-plugin-uninstaller]
3.Clean up Plugins Securities like for example for Waves:
1.Install what you want from Waves Central [from official website].
2.Quit Waves Central -- Generate License R2R from Last_Used_Address -- Patch the License & Bundle
3.Restart & See if everything works [which it does & their is no need to download the complete bundle from the releases. You only need the patched Bundle & Keygen.
4.Clean up Waves Launch Agents [Login Items in Settings] -- Remove everything other than Data & Plugin V14 folder from Waves [Applications] -- Uninstall Waves Central -- Clean up Waves Application Support folder [delete the central & local server folder & other stuff you don't need] -- Clean up Waves Application Support in Users folder too.
5.Delete duplicates like the Avid folder, Au, Vst2 & common ones [Plugins & Application Support] -- Keep only VST3 Waveshell Bundles.
6.Everything becomes optimized & works. Do this for other stuff that used securities. The best thing is to not have any ilok or codemeter or other security included stuff for best performance.
7.Arturia stuff requires Arturia Software centre to be present but you can clean back-up vst & vst3 from Arturia folder in Application Support.
4.Clean up Ableton [Show Package Contents from Ableton App]:
    1.Delete Legals and Docs
2.Delete Push & other unneeded stuff.
3.In App-Resources Delete Max [leave it if you use m4l devices]
4.Clean up Core Library [I have only Devices left & everything else deleted -- delete files from folder & not the folders itself]. Do this only if you know what you're going to use [Drum machines and other stuff that uses samples from core lib will not make any sounds after this] I use plugins for everything, so I'm fine.
5.Clean up stuff in User Library from Places in Ableton
6.Now Ableton only occupies 700 mb from around 6gbs

This is just a one-time step & will take couple hours but after this for 1-2 years you're fine & everything is optimized. [Don't delete stuff you need & break your stuff...take care]

I have all my plugins organized in Places. I find this best for me instead of the new browser features.

I made the following for my vsts:

Type of plugin: Instrument Plugin (own tag group), midi plugin (inside Synth group) or Effect Plugin (got his own tag group)
    lets take the Instrument group:
wavetable, subtractive, emulation, classic, Ableton (i tag also ableton devices here), etc

then i make also a Creator/Vendor tag group with the usual subjects,
now you can combine: Effect and vendor tag with each other and get a pretty good selection.
its better than the previous folder structure :) and you sort of have VST3 and VST2 , ableton devices in the same Collection, if Ableton has fixed the folder bug for Collection and tags.

You can also tag by Format: VST2 VST3 adg, AU if on mac. its all possible now.

just needs some time to set up.
Also i have not find a way to backup tags and stuff for use on another computer.

@ryu_shiro_878 good tips. might need to clean this useless Core Library. i did never use Ableton samples or device presets.

@ryu_shiro_878 and @ArticStorm it is a tedious job that should be done ages ago…
But still Ableton shouldn’t do remove Creators’ tags of VST2 plugins.

For some reason the first start of Ableton 12, with scanning >300 000 samples for the similarity search function only took a few seconds. That can't be possible? But it's working. Quite impressed so far.

That seems amazing! How did you set up that rack to be able to modulate like that?

Wondering the same.. for me mapping has a huge bug I just noticed, moving the knob in the rack doesnt change the assign knob in the plugin at all. But also it's greyed out and not accessible. @xbitz how did you do it?
