to me it is unacceptable that i can't rebind shift+tab to another key. i have to use autohotkey to do such a simple task. i always switch around arrangement view, piano roll, clip view, etc. and my left hand gets tired quite quickly, such that i started using the mouse and the buttons on the bottom right.
other than this and the browser being garbage (yeah, yeah, getting used to it... i know...), the rest of the changes seem pretty good. i'm glad i switched to ableton a year or so ago

Wow, that is so bright. Do you use any screen dimming or blue light management when producing in the evenings, or that's not an issue for you?

I control the brightness from Macbook. I think it appears bright on other displays. To me it's fine. [I guess Macbook Air isn't that bright anyway]

Its browser breaks organised vst2 completely. It gives no Creator’s name… For me it is like shite. Vst3 are reorganised, not good.

So what is the definitive performance verdict vs Live 11? Is Live 12 able to handle the CPU load better or worse than Live 11?

It's much faster, I commented it was slower in earlier comment but I now removed the Live 11 release. Turned off Sample Match & other useless setting. Optimized the files [Removed all clutter from Live.app -- Push, Legals and Docs -- Core Library; all samples, grooves, tunings, devices, etc. as I mainly use Plugins] It's much faster than 11. Acustica stuff works 1.5-2x faster. There were problems in loading times in plugins & sometimes it just stucks when some plugins are closed at the start but now it's perfectly fine. Everything works.

They ran with the same talking points for the promo: Midi tools, similiar sounds search, ROAR and Meld... We all work differently, but I'd only utilize the 'Strum' and 'Arpeggiator' tool mostly. The cluttered browser isn't my taste.

Really...? You mean H-Zoom has just now become a "feature" in this thing? I tried ableton a while back (a few years) for about an hour and deleted it out of a hat because it seemed clunky and missing a lot of features I had been using in cubase/nuendo for some time... I guess this explains it...

After reading all of this and more, plus Ableton saying they will be updating and changing things very soon (browser fixes), not sure its worth the hassle for me.

BUT.. My biggest gripe with Live 11 is when I update a plugin that is now only VST3 (uninstall previous as per instructions etc), older projects using VST2 don't automatically swap in the new VST3, it just says missing plugin, which means I have to manually find the plugin used, drop it in and try to match the settings I was using, which is impossible for most plugins. I hate that!! Does Live 12 fix this? I would upgrade just for this one feature.

Am I the only one? :dunno:

Live 11, for me, is perfect in operation and couldnt run any faster than it already does. I know lots of people have issues with scanning times and CPU stuff, but if you have a new CPU and fast SSD's, clean/offline PC etc, it is not an issue at all. If it is, then its user error. As for Live 12, I am not going to even install it until I know for sure the fix I need is ehm fixed. I would guess that if Live 11 runs extremely slow for you now, Live 12 will likely feel the same on that PC in many if not more ways.

I was in the same boat. Once I did update & everything felt more slick & the new mixer in arrangement view just pulled me in. I don't care about any updates or new devices that they are advertising but it just became so fast. Once you get used to new shortcuts & organize your plugins in Places instead of using the Plugin Browser. Everything is amazing!

You can save Instruments as Layers & Plugins as .preset by just dragging them in Places & have a organized workflow

Interesting, Depeche Mode puts 100%wet shitty stock reverb directly on their kicks, boosts the lows by what seems to be a few trillion dB and insane amounts of erosion. Really shows that there are no rules, as long as it sounds good!

I used Live for years before switching to Reaper, then Studio One currently. I was expecting a spark after trying 12 yesterday but it seemed too "crowded" and anxiety inducing.

Uninstalled it and went back to Studio One....

What is affordable to you? :dunno: Storage is relatively cheap.

Well, if you've already got 24TB fast-enoughish storage, how about using that? Ableton is fine dealing with that amount. Yeah, the initial indexing is not fast (esp. with the new similarity search), but after that it's smooth sailing. And only the default Ableton Library location can't be configured, but most certainly can be moved & symlinked, and apart from that, nothing has to stay in the default location. Even the full Suite library is nowhere near that range.

Now, if you really need 24TB of fast on-tap streamed sample libraries you are going to have the same issue with every DAW, so either you really need it justifying of fast 20+ TBs of DAS disks or you can do like the rest of us and stagger the storage by usage.
