They are ok. The company has stagnated and only seems to be capable of beta firmware updates and 'limited' edition casing with no other useful upgrades now. It feels like they've lost the core developers and now they're just coasting. They still need to improve the 'Ti' integration and do something about the piss poor USB support.

They're popular, but then, so are the heavily pushed KRK monitor speakers and, well...

I agree about their stagnant development, but as far as your analogy goes I highly disagree. KRK are popular no doubt, but compared to other monitors you could do a lot better as far as quality is concerned. Viruses are popular as well, but you'd be hard pressed to find another synth with it's engine's power and modeling capabilities.

I decoded it as OP saying 'the only synth workstations that are good are access virus'

While virus synths certainly are great (I have a virus c), there are lots of great synthesizers out there. Depends on your needs/desired tonal characteristics.

but access virus isnt a workstation, a workstation has a ROM and lets you do multiple things, which the virus isnt capable of.

Exactly. Virus is not a workstation. It's just a synth. Workstations are capable of multi-timbral performance, e.g. drums+bass+everything else. Like Korg Oasys, or Kronos, for instance. I too think Virus is quite a bit overrated. It's just a DSP VSTi in a fancy hardware chassis. I've played with it many times and it didn't impress me much. Otherwise I'd buy one. These days I'm only impressed by Eurorack modules. That's truly great quality shit! No 1s and 0s, and no bugs nor firmware!

In the meantime, DSP synths, be it hardware or software, give you pretty much the same sound quality. depending on the code quality. Code quality is the key, and there is no doubt that Virus' is nicely coded, but worth its weight in gold... not really IMHO.

    Cheers! :mates:

    edit: grammar :P

:) I understood this title as:
"The only desktop computer worth it's weight in gold is infected with a virus"

An mpc is a workstation..lol.. Only thing required for a tool to be considered a workstation is a sound module with the ability to produce electronic music. Also this post was clearly satire. Just played with a virus before I made it and was thoroughly impressed.

@SineWave i am impressed by the Solaris Synth, its limited and i heard some awsome audio examples, you have a waiting time of 1 year to get one.
its also only a synth, but really special in the sound.
he price is out of reach for me with 4k€

If he decided to make a VSTi and lower the price considerably he could have a hit as there aren't many good modular DSP synths available. At 4k euro this is out of reach for many interested. I don't consider anything that costs more than about 1500 euro. For 4k euro you can rather assemble a completely analogue, extraordinarily great sounding and flexible eurorack modular!

he does have a nice community and the synth is really worth the money, as it gets constant updates and it has also a really good design, it doesnt look a virus for example.
nahhh hes a hardware producer, no way he will ever make a vsti out of it.
if i had the money, i would definitely order one. (add time here too :D )

eurorack modular sounds like a lot of fuddling, mabe i am wrong there.
