I had the LP when it came out, some nice tracks were on the 2nd side.

Fast forward a few years and you will hear same members on this track.

    I am confused.

Are you responsible for the louder version?

It's a great song....... but what's up with the new version being so boosted.

I'm not responsible but the song is supersensible and it was reprehensible to leave it non-impressible just because of some insensible dBs.

You see? You're also so smart and sharp as a tack. I know whom I should select rigorously as my senior and qualified instructor.

80s synthpop, a tough game! But I stay in and raise by this 1984 video. In another thread I talked about growing up without even knowing the word racist. Now imagine what this video and song did to me! I just couldn't believe that human beings behave like that, just because he's loving a boy instead of a girl. And I still don't get why that matters.

Honorable mention. A dancefloor filler at its time:

Luckily I never really encountered that in the 80's. Did in the late 90's though, while out clubbing with gay friends.
In the early 80's my nickname was Howie, as people used to think I looked like this guy.

    I see.

The version of that song that came on CD is louder (somewhere around -13LUFS) than the MTV version which is where the original video got its backing track. The issue all those recording pushed for tape were pushed very bright (high-bias) because of how the medium works and rather low to avoid OST transformer saturation.

Though a high shelf and big amp with decent drivers is the better way to cure the lack of a few dBs at the top than compression and a huge bump at the bottom. In a world of under-powered in ear monitoring its a decent job, if not a good compromise for both playback methods.

Throwing one more into the fray, one I think deserves a place on the list.

So many good synth-pop songs in the 80's, But you can't have this thread and leave the song that really kicked it off by being on Top of the Pops in 1979 out.
