I own the R2R Omnisphere release. I've tested it on numerous systems over the years, and Omnisphere feels slow compared to other modern VST Plugins. One reason could be that the codebase persisted from the 2000s, so they slowly upgraded it throughout the years, but the framework remained the same with minimal changes. I remember using the popular Virtual DJ 7, which was clunky and slow too, but a popular DJ Software, and once they dropped Virtual DJ 8 (VDJ 8), it felt like a completely new piece of software since they had written the code from the ground up, now I ask myself, why isn't this possible with Omnisphere? It could be that the piece of the program is just too complex, which would take many months, if not years, to write everything up since Omnisphere has multiple sound engines and a complex library, and many presets rely on the current engine, where if there were a new one, they would need to adapt presets too, probably time consuming and costing money. I'm sure that's possible, but maybe they do not care.

I'm not speaking about hardware related logic, superfast SSD/CPU/RAM, just the piece of code itself that it's written up. What are your thoughts?

 

And that's after you actually managed to generate the license! Hate to say but I'm quite done with Spectrasonics.
What's the go-to alternative?

 

Lol omnisphere is my least cpu intensive plugin .. I hit about 3 to 7% .. I dont use alot of multi's though so that could be it .. but i run alot of sample based libraries kontakt, falcon.. and omnisphere runs better then both on a bad day..I dont use R2Rs version .. I think it's Moria or bobdule version windows 11 ryzeen 9 5900x 4 TB SSD drives 32 gigs RAM

 

I had no idea there was an alternative to R2R. Do they make you jump through hoops to authorize?

 

It's easier then R2R .. you just install over it and it's authorized

 

agree. that's why i don't use this dinosaur. it's sluggish as f*ck like arturia synths.

 

I only play individual presets and the speed is sufficient. You can also consider using a different plugin and then part ways with Omnsiphere.

But until some time ago it had a bug where it's very, very laggy on some machines and with my bad luck I always had this bug on my systems, over multiple Intel and ryzen builds. But recently it got fixed with an update and now it's quite snappy and not heavy on the CPU. Did you try the latest releases from r2r?

 

I bet it is possible but their focus seams to be on creating paid expansions.
Heck they don't even manage to fix that proreverb bug. (eq big boomer preset shows that, it clicks )

beside that it actually works quite good on my macMini M1, I still prefer its GUI obver that new Nexus 5 GUI

 

I just opened the ProReverb, I couldn't find the Big Boomer preset! Please check again!

 

Licensing O2 is a pain in the butt and i'm an official owner. The official activation NEVER works. A real scandal. I have to use the R2R keygen.
That being said. NOTHING is an O2 alternative. Nothing. Period. My STEAM folder is 335 GB in size and 65000 presets loaded.
I also own Avenger and most expansions. And i've tested Nexus 5. Both are nothing like O2.
If you happen to stumble upon one. Please enlighten me. I would really love to see that happening. But so far. Nothing.

Have you contacted the Spectrasonics Omnisphere support team?
User error or a computer problem? What operating system do you have?

I suspect it is more due to Windows and its security settings.

yes i did and no they couldn't figure it out. I was on W10. I switched to W11. Same issue. So i decided to let it as is for the time being, R2R keygen working and all.

Other than the initial load of plugin instance, i find that subsequent instances and the plugin in general is fast. Never had any lag with general functionality or DSP. It has managing thousands of presets and sound sources. There is no other plugin in the same scale that works "faster". Especially with loading multisamples and DSP together,
