Why Omnisphere 2.6.4 is slower with Steam Separated on my extern PNY 2nd Gen which is faster than the my secondary SSD I have installed internally? I don't know

Library is 130 GB.
m.2 is 500 GB, 1900MBS peak writing on DDR3 UEFI Older MOBO. I have 297 GB left on it and when it gets filled I have another M.2 to put in the PCIE slot.

But this is literally 5 times slower.
However, I'm very thankful I found this solution. I don't care it requires me to refresh every single startup or message pops up. I got stuff from 2012 that could of been real bad.

But when I had the steam folder on my boot drive, the same drive as Omnisphere, it was fast....This isn't a case of me having to delete the Index files. The oddest thing is when I try to import user audio it 2.6.4 freezes for 15 to 40 minutes or doesn't unfreeze at all. What's odder it doesnt put the source sound where it's supposed to. I"m telling you this is the weirdest thing and I feel since the STEAM folder and this index isn't on the same drive putting out calls and then receiving call back through external hard drive, that its slower. Having Omnisphere on my regular SSD is with the STEAM on same drive is faster than it is now. I don't know why, I also believe this copy of Omni from The Pir is a better quality copy than what's out now. 2.6.3 Didn't lag like it does now. I'm telling you it's this version they put out. 2.6.3 didn't freeze when I imported audio, I also think since it has to reindex itself when I Import audio < this is part of the issue.

BTW Omnisphere doesnt recall the Patch incase FL Studio dies out freezes, then through backup data re-establishes the project, Project has to be saved in order for patch to be properly recalled. Even when saving it doesn't recall the Patch folder, only the patch. Recalls it with "All Omnisphere" ticked in directory window, with the "All" option highlighted. But it's what I have to do in order to get what I saved, that's fine.

Alright I'm bout to retrograde back down to 2.6.3 can't take it anymore.

OK So I had things to do. I suggest to everyone get this software, cause it helps finding leftover files in the registry. I'm about to use it and clean everything out before I have to go to my dentist appointment. Reinstall. Getting tired of pouring heart into writing and it deciding to freeze out. I don't think it's worth the money they charge and it doesn't have breakthrough synthesis technology to pay 600. It's the sound library I believe attracts people to it.

Reason for retrograding:
If Fl Studio freezes even if I save the project beforehand it will not recall patch.



ok back from Dentist. I've decided to once again give 2.6.4 (before I Install 2.7 Patch dropped today) a try, not touch any multi menu and see if I get the problem.

Every Omnisphere user and use is different and unique, I say this because as you can see below I've decided to move STEAM folder back onto the drive that houses Omni and my DAW. Much much faster with even writing the files back to that drive, I was getting 40mbps a little bit ago. When I was transferring from Seagate 5TB (download and xtraction drive and folder) to my PNY where I chose to house the Steam Folder as the PNY is faster than my SSD internal < maximum 5mbs, and that PNY only maybe 2mb-5mbps

I can already tell this setup is going to be instant. So perhaps anyone with an NVME drive in the future wondering why your stuff be laggy as hell when it's not supposed to, that could perhaps be your answer.
I know for myself and I believe it's a call and receive issue with M.2 NVME drives that it's more efficient to place the STEAM Folder on the actual drive boots Omnisphere, maybe with older SSD's place on a separate drive, not mine. It has a higher Estimated time because I chose to replace files already there to use STEAM folder. Then it has to read from an older Seagate drive. I know 40mbps might not seem impressive reading an older damn near HDD external then writing to the M.2 itself, but it is for me. I'm really eager to see if there is any lag, in fact quite excited. IMO, it's a dirty shame companies had the ability to incorporate M.2 NVME into UEFI older MOBOS with just a BIOS update, it's a sin.

Much Much faster. maybe at most .7 of a second to switch between patches and audition them as opposed to
(depending on Library and Patch Size) 3-7-sometimes 10 seconds before. I got some writing to do

 

After going over all the info you have given only one thing comes to mind:
Adjust your meds.


Joking of course, but .... maybe not?
If not, don't take it hard ....
Omnisphere has driven many of us crazy...

I'll obsess over something until I get it done. Like a sound I can spend 5 days on not a beat, but finding the right instrument and sonics for a beat, beat's already written in my head before I put it down. Gets discouraging when you do what's in your power to do and make the best of a situation like making it so your Mobo can accept NVME (boot from It I mean) as so $ can be spent elsewhere, instead of on a new but less powerful pc than I have. Or Obsessing on finding the right sound, or tweaking it, but get discouraged because the tweaks you put in over a couple days become all for nothing because Omni 2.6.4 won't recall it properly, so much to point I search all over the web and find only this website discusses problems in detail for the Omni user (more so than its own help forum). Maybe I'm the only one with a NVME boot and larger External HDD or SSD that has Omni all the while experiencing lag while patches you worked on are absent when you reopen the DAW. That's why I joined and figured I'd give what helped me and not waste another forum post topic. I use to have problems reinstalling until I found that everything software I found through a forum post here.

V 2.7 updates the issue with Midi Memory that remembers knob articulation you apply within Omni. Running STEAM from folder where it's meant to be on 2.6.4 way faster. I do have to outsource some space to the PNY in order to fit Keyscape. Making Omni patches doesnt freeze at all or take the time it did like when I had Steam in prior location, I checked on 4 before upgraded to 7. As I suspected that had something to do with the problem in the first place not recalling patches.

As far as ADHD gos, I didn't decide to treat it until past 30. And it was way worse before.

I wrote a 22 page response to your question, not going to post it on forum in unrelated post and hog up space, so put it on google drive.

It was my Birthday yesterday so excuse the typos, and I didn't take and place the proper desktop snippet shots in all right areas, you'll get the idea and can look up the things I say.

Long story short, Stimulants. But wrote that response in order so people don't copy what I say. As I believe ADHD is rare to point maybe 50 people alive atm only have it out of 8 Billion. And that's me being generous. I'm not joking in any part of this. Nor do I take this disability as a joke. Nor do I think Kids should be pumped up with this because their parents don't feel like being a parent...ADHD only comes about through severe physical trauma that 99.999999% of people wouldn't survive and if they did they'd have something else.

I think I somewhat resolved the issue (Windows).

1. I ran procmon & filtered to FL studio PID.
2. Saw that omnisphere.dll was unable to create files in STEAM folder due to permissions.
3. I ran FL Studio in administrator mode & ran omnisphere again; now it loads presets faster than before & I havent run into the presets not recalling.

I believe the presets not recalling is due to omnisphere.dll not being able to save its state (write to some file) because of permissions. Also believe setting STEAM (or spectrasonics related) folder privlages has no benefits since the files within the folder are updated/replaced by omnisphere/trillian/keyscape instances which creates files with default permissions.
