I have also never had the Dragon, but I have as a young man in a very fine Hi-Fi studio worked on the side, and I may hear very very fine equipment at a young age, and early I would know what a good sound means ... you have to have experienced it yourself

KORG TR-Rack - Another favorite, loved the pads and strings on this unit.

Kraftwerk achieved this with the help of various vocoders, all of which originated in the military and are actually used to
encode speech and then decode it again at the receiver. Kraftwerk used them to create entire choirs, distorted voices
into synthesizers and fell so in love with the future machine that the singing synthesizer soon came to stand for the band.

Kraftwerk increasingly relied on peculiar noise sources in the 80s.
For example, they used calculators to create sounds and children's toys were used to create rhythms.

A Music Demo for Sharp PC-1403

The Sharp PC-1403 was a small scientific calculator and pocket computer manufactured by Sharp.
It was the successor of the Sharp PC-1401, and had better display, more RAM and better system software.

Yep, I remember Accuphase! And the glory days of McIntosh, Phase Linear, Marantz... And I LOVED the cassettes that looked like little reel to reels.

CASIO MT-520 - In 1988, my grandparents bought me this keyboard for my 13th birthday. It was my gateway that eventually led to my obsession for synths and music production. It had a very simple sequencer that allowed for recording and playback of performances. I remember spending hours teaching myself how to play melodies from pop songs on the radio, recording them into this little keyboard, and playing them back.

Funny enough I recently bought a Yamaha Remie for my daughter's 6th birthday and she too is obsessed with memorizing and playing back songs she listens to, and I hope it continues because I still to this day think back of the time my grandparents gifted my that Casio and thank them in my thoughts.

Of all the gear I've bought and sold, this is what I miss the most. My Roland MKB-1000 MIDI Keyboard Controller. It had such a beautiful mid-weight piano action, so comfortable for me to play. Before this I had a Yamaha Clavinova with an action that was way too heavy and hard to play. This Roland was just right. But it was a beast. Hugh and heavy. I did a company move once, and the movers brought in a guy to build a wooden crate for it. But it had a big top that you could stack your gear on top of, and it was sturdy. My last move, I wasn't able to bring it along. Such a shame. My current controller is 76 keys, and it's not enough to play ELP Trilogy!

Couple of drum machines I owned over the years:

    Boss DR-202
    - This was my very first drum machine bought in 2000. I could never really gel with the overall sound but the bass patches on this thing were AWESOME. Really enjoyed programming and jamming with it.

Akai XR20 - This was the second dedicated drum machine I purchased back 2008 and by far one of my favorite pieces of gear I've ever owned. Simple, fun, easy to program and sounded great. I eventually sold it but would have bought it back had I not bought a Maschine MK1.

One of the most interesting synths Yamaha has released. I still hope to get one some day.

The D4 was an affordable and fully professional Drum and Percussion sound module. It featured 500 drums sounds, sampled at 48kHz and stored on an internal ROM chip. The sounds cover the whole gamut, from great acoustic drum types to electronic drum sounds. Orchestral and ethnic percussion sounds and various percussive effects are also available. There are 21 programmable drum kits as well. And the D4 has full 16-channel MIDI implementation.

That's the one, thanks! At some point we wound up with a D5 too and I seem to remember mostly just still using the D4 anyway
