it's interesting about Roland and all their "EDM" target market devices. None of them do well with EDM producers. But if Roland market the synth towards anything else, Church/Gospel to Death Metal; they will be an EDM cult classic, without fail. That mc505 would have made a better boat anchor. from the same batch of devices as the already mentioned SP-808. You like the mc303? It has gotten some wildly mixed reviews in later years.

at a young age when i had little experience , thought like you now ... the older i get the more i understand what a good sound is ... those big names you mentioned are expensive and also sound a bit better , but that doesn't mean that they have more character in their sound... and that's what it's all about for me.... it's pointless to discuss it with young musicians ... because they just haven't been through enough.... thanks for your opinion.

Also, for people making "Lo-Fi" music styles; it is like "Crate Digging" but instead of old funk/rare groove/whatever you like on vinyl; it is synthesizers to sample. Look at UVI. They make a library of some impossible to buy/afford synth like a Fairlight CMI as part of "Vintage Vault". But then they also make a library of "Toy synths". I'm usually shooting for somewhere in the middle on the cheap. Like buying a sample library that you can resell because it is a tangible physical device. unless you get attached to one :)

there's always someone in these threads. "how dare you make 50 bucks on a SM-58?! You don't use it like xyzzy vocalist! Only a real vocalist should be able to Ebay microphones!!!" "You are hiding away all the 500$ samplers from real artists like....!"

Ok, I'm an Ensoniq fanboy and I never even knew such a thing existed. Now I have to learn about it.

Here's another one I miss: 76 keys, layered 4 sounds with a usable number of voices, good sounds, good price! The Quadrasynth!

I'd kill for an Ensoniq SQ80- poly aftertouch! I know one or two others had it but I'd have to look up which ones...

prophecy was an awesome synth, but highly rated! Like the Triton. the z1 was a little bit of a serious sleeper.

the one I got was in 2004 or so. no case, a little better condition than the one pictured, no effects cards installed. 250 bucks.

Ok, here is an interesting unit for you. It was actually the first HW midi sequencer I ever owned. I do not miss it one bit, but I post it because I am sure you could get one super super cheap and I saw a guy recently using 2 of them to do a live EDM sort of set. It looked like he was having a lot of fun using them in the video I saw. If all you care about is a hw clock source:

    The Alesis MMT-8.

you can find these expensively, but I can imagine a seller not knowing the REAL value of one. so we can stick on the "to find in a barn someday" list.
I have included YT video, but everyone will know these models from the Rob Papen plugin versions. He just can't legally use the name or something, so they are presets called like JoMama instead. :0
I have been corrected. They are also called PX Sunbox in UVI world.

Samples from Mars have not done these? Nope. I might not let them either if I had one. maybe they are just not listed as such.

I had always been a Kurzweil fan boy since I was fortunate enough to see Ray Kurzweil demo the K250 in a suite at an Audio Engineering Society conference. I even saw the road show Kurzweil did with a K250 product specialist in a rented performance theater in Dallas. At the time, simply amazing. I went for the 1000PX Professional Expander when it came out. Pianos, strings, and more. I loved it. For many years I swore I would NEVER sell it just for the piano alone. Times and technology changed. Sold it.

Re: Kawai SX-240. Nope. At about 3 minutes into the video, it starts playing a very sad song that reminds you about all the starving producers in Alaska. sounds really nice, excellent example of the Kawai VCF cutoff movement. it is like white noise or something so specific, instead of just resonance. idk.

Thank you! This is a perfect example machine for what I like to look at. It is an excellent quality device, but since it is not the *K2500 people know to punch into Reverb; you can find awesome value way more realistic in price. or they are way more rare and I won't be buying those anyway. ever. some things are out of reach for nearly all of us, oh well.

"This one is a 60. So it is obviously worth less than this 2000 one that is on Reverb. It has big drum pads". I joke, that would be would be unethical. added here anyway.

I owed a CS1x and loved it. I also worked at a music store that got a K250 when it came out. Still one of the most badass looking keyboards ever made.

When the z1 first was released, I think 1991 roughly; it may as well have been a space ship. design wise. I think the Wavestation released at nearly the same time. That was where Korg explained that time didn't really apply as you knew it any longer either. :guru:
