I'd like to open a ton of cubase 5 projects I made in the past with a newer version that uses my nowadays 64 bit plugins. But I don't wanna use the new cubase versione because GUI is very different and honestly I don't get a clue of how to use it. For me cubase 5 was supreme in terms of GUI, so I like to know which cubase oldest version running 64 bits plugins?
    THANK YOU!

Cubase 4 was the first with a 64-bit version, however presumably it won't open every Cubase 5 project without issues. So the oldest version fully compatible with Cubase 5 would be Cubase 5.

Cubase 5 don't load 64 bits plugins, so I suppose Cubase 4 neither load them

the oldest Cubase, which was blessed was version 12 i think and it was also 64bit.
(Cubase GUI was always kinda solala, i did like the Cubase 3 GUI, which was very workable)

If you own Cubase, you can ask Steinberg for help? If they know, when 64bit was integrated and they maybe can help you with a legit installer.

Cubase 4 was x86 (32bit) only still, think it was introduced in version 5.

Like i wrote: Air released long time ago with GOUDA a Cubase 5 release, which was only x86.
Then nobody touched it anymore for a long time!
Steinberg finally dropped their dongle with release of Cubase 12 i believe.

This means there is a gap from Cubase 6 till 11! Where either x64 was introduced or Cubase 5 had x64 already, but it was way to much work for AiR to release it aswell.

Id say you could get this AiR release and try to open x64 plugins with it.

Those don't work properly. It's version 5 or 12+ for non legit users.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure airs cubase 5 was NOT an x64 release (I'll have a look later). So it will not load 64bit dlls

@OP: are we talking legit with elicenser (you can open older versions with newer version on the dongle), or patched?

the DAW itself can be x86, but doesnt mean it cant bridge x64.
in moments of doubt, just download the release again and try.

otherwise yes its really just the Cubase 12 as the lowest versions, which is x64 and, which works for your purpose.

I don't have any cubase license because I'm a reaper user. I use to record on cubase when I was young and that's why I have lots of cubase 5 (cracked) projects that I'd like to open. But in order to reach for the plugins I used in that time I'd need to install all of their 32bit versions. I thought maybe opening them with a newer cubase will be fine but really the last versions are imposible to use! Cubase 5 was really nice in the eyes in contrast to the actuall releases

Let me list you the AIR release (i dont have these, so no warez request as write in the board rules!)
    Steinberg.Cubase.v5.1.DVDR-AiRISO
    5.1.0
    5.1.1
    5.1.2
    updates by AiR

    just give this a try.

you can also bridge all your x64 plugins into this version, just need to be careful with the plugin names. Its a bit trail and error.

I made the jump from Cubase 5.1 AiRISO (most definitely x86, doesn't even see 64-bit plugins) to Cubase 12 (R2R) last year. It took me about three days to convert 200 projects so they would work flawlessly in CB12, and perhaps another day to get CB12 to look as much like CB5 as possible. Literally every plugin I used turned out to have a bridgeable 64-bit version or vst3 version, and there are lots of tips out there on adjusting colour schemes etc. It is well worth taking the plunge and not having to deal with the limitations of CB5 anymore.

I would do the same. Usually it's not worth keeping legacy software up and running just for the look and feel. Because the hassle to keep it running might be way worse than those two weeks adapting to the new look (or those 2 hours skinning it).

I agree with fireplace, if you know what to tweak Cubase can be as similar as possible to it was 20 years ago or more, thats what most users want: a virtual version of a hardware studio with a good score editor and midi structure

That said, about these kind of question I suggest the OP to join the live Q&A with Greg Ondo on the Cubase official Youtube channel and ask that information during the live, he can answer for sure like the official steinberg support or a lot of people in the chat can answer

the is every tuesday and friday, lasts 4-5 hours each session, so it's later today

That said, you will find there also Greg's email. You can email him your detailed needs and he will kindly answer better and faster than official support

and nobody will ask if you are a legit owner or not (anyway you should NEVER EVER mention 'kd software versions there)
