    technology brought nothing

i´m commenting the daw production...not sure what the guitar players and singers are doing these days.. probably trying to be the next pink floyd

who would be ready to dumb down to a 2 core 2004 pc if it was the only way to do it
Open up old Cubase 5 vst32, that thing is such a blank slate that it is a pain to pull the plugin up, and you better have 3-4 tracks with stuff you want because you´ll loose any interest and you cannot pull the eq up since it needs 5-6 clicks to get to it...whenever i play with it i realise how time shifts, i´m still holding off usage of it for unknown reasons but i got the icon on the desktop and i think i also need to print the mix thru rather than render it...anyway..

it is not easy... maybe the problem is since everybody is making a sound coming out from the speakers, that the bar was set to a new level and no amount of tech is enough to make soul translate onto 0´s and 1´s

modern EDM is basically gear/soft demos

Dont know if anyone has been checking the websites of the various mastering engineers, not the top ones but the ones under...you can see what they have mastered, tiny icons of totally unknown people, music, it is the most mindboggling thing to me that somebody would do mastering day in and day out for something that does not move more than 5 people on the planet a month

It is a loop, i think mastering engineers should start digging up people stuck on forums like this, like the pyramid needs to focus down rather than up

i´m going on a rant idc

there was a guy who posted track on this forum, since i was dabbling in mastering i printed the input and played with it and it stayed on my pc, forum members criticized him for slaming the track, and the guy is proper talent, made all by himself and probably deleted it and moved on, i would pay 50$ for his 3 track ep, dude plays guitar, drums, sings, and engineers, mixes and masters how he wants...i think he was RVL or smthing, i´m intentionally misspelling

    i found this guy too

Uli Behringer began producing the first mixers in the 90s: coincidence?

Music in 2024 is just as creative as 90's electronica. Technology allows for more creative processes, and putting the tools in more peoples hands.

Maybe they are still creative in some ways but not that memorable and not so diverse.
It's more complicated. It's fault of the competition, tools, digitalization, alghoritms.
    Everything sounds more the same.
Comparision of past vs now doesn't have sense.
Back then society was different, mentality was different, equipment for producing was different, listening systems was different.
Internet was not a platform for music distribution like now.
Now if you doesn't meet the standards you are worse than competition.
If your bass and kick doesn't make boom and sub bass is deep your music is qualified as worse than competition.
Back then artists didn't pay that much attention to this.
It is one of the reason why music back then was more memorable, more creative and sounds more diverse than now where everything sounds very similar to each other.

    Even your examples proves it.
They sound like from same artist from same album.
There is nothing memorable in them.

There are pros and cons of old music and nowadays music.
But I see a lot more pros of older music before internet distribution era.

When we talk about "old songs" we mostly mean a selection of "the best" songs. And we don't know how music (music in whole) really sounded in that past times.

When we talk about "modern songs" we mostly mean all we hear and listen without any selection. We talk about our everyday experience. And we know how modern music sounds in whole.

Yes, today anyone can make a "song" and publish it. Without any "censorship", without any control. Record companies and labels in the past mostly censored garbage, recordings was made by professionals etc. But I'm sure there was a ton of garbage (bad sounding music) in the past. We just don't remember it or can't remember it as we was born later.

it was not bout creativity like painting or other stuff , it was bout creating a feeling hitting a certain vibe and find that hard hitting groove .to my shame those stuff you posted remind me a bit at the foster thread were he said he sick of people randomly throwing notes . this sound is made for sake of being different while its actually boring ,transporting no feelings and most certainly no groove at all and all these pointless vox btreaks .i really had hopes i can throw it on my mp3 player but no . eg (little genre hop but not to far )from noisia i only liked one track in the last years and it was not neuro it was kind of its own bigbeat neuro fusion what ever ,it had hard hitting groove ,something their new neuro lacks for sake of getting sicker and sicker neuro basses and knockin drums i guess .
imo no matter how advanced someone is , hunting the real groove is bringing someones track output numbers down cause its sort of not planable to find .
even in native it would be hard to define that word groove but i guess you know what i mean .i guess it can be descriped as playing all ellements in perfection together but with dirt and harmony at the same time .

"music and songs from the late XIX century sounds like it is so much better produced, arranged and conducted than today music. no but really seriously i think it sounds better. Also at that time less recording technology and no way to store and reproduce a recording."

«Today the father fears his children. Children believe they are equal to their father and have neither respect nor esteem for their parents. What they want is to be free. The professor is afraid of the students, the students insult the professors; the young immediately demand the place of the elderly; the elderly, in order not to appear retrograde or despotic, agree to this surrender and, to crown it all, in the name of freedom and equality, the freedom of the sexes is demanded".

Plato, Greek philosopher, born in 428 BCE in Athens, Greece

As you can see, these complaints about young people who are no longer what they should be are at least 2400 years old... boomers existed then too! As far as I'm concerned, these are useless words said by those who have forgotten what it means to be young and therefore no longer know how to decode the present

There are always (regardless of era) going to be shittier artists (ones that defy reasoning for even releasing stuff to the masses) and great artists that stand all time tests. This is, in no small part, reflective of the audio engineering tech used to create that content. There are many great and powerful tools these days that make creating content available to a much wider user base. However, the use (abuse) of those tools has been grossly twisted and mangled in such a manner as to leave all clarity, subtlety, and dynamic range in the weeds in favor of some sort of electronic loudness vendetta. To make things even more ridiculous this same loudness jousting match is now an accepted practice for a lot of the industry. All this resulting in a severely degraded auditory experience for unsuspecting listeners of this raped and murdered content.

As a young artist I was able to pick out parts to tracks that I needed to play very easily mainly due to the nature of the recording process allowing one to hear ALL the parts of a track as recorded because there was dynamic range built into the recording. Proper mixing techniques helped with this as well, but when there is no clarity to a final mix because it's all crushed at -1 or 0 vu it becomes difficult to impossible to discern exactly what is going on instrumentally.

I agree with ms. middleton's assessment that content recorded in the late 70's 80's 90's and very early 2000's physically sounds better than most stuff being produced today. This is not a tool's issue, it is more a procedural/process issue that seems to be settled squarely upon a "louder is better, all other things be damned" credo being accepted as some sort of industry standard (sub-standard is more apt).

...and nowadays some acts e.g noisia get into the mixing trap becoming obcessed with , getting kind of near real engineers with real degree which is killing their original souce . imho

im confused by your statement. are you saying noisia's music has gotten worse because they have gotten better at mixing?

People knew how to write music, talented people were involved in the creative process, this included great producers, song writers and managers who had balls and signed and promoted talent.
    Bacskreet boys excluded.

Unlikely because the average life expectancy was MUCH less than 60 years. If you think I was born then, then thank you! I look amazing for 100
