Old iMac Core 2 Duo took a dump question

    So this old iMac that I use for the interwebs and random stuff decided it would only try to boot up to the point of half the boot tone. That's only if I hold the power button, otherwise it sort of winds up and turns off quickly. I then have to unplug it to try again where it makes it up to the same point and shuts off again. I'm not crying about it as I got a lot of mileage out of it but if it's an easy fix I figure why not, plus I could get some stuff out of it, like music, pictures, links ect. It's been months sine I've backed it up. I could just take the drive out assuming that's not the issue but I'll try something else first if you got any ideas.

    I tried google but I can't seem to find anyone else experiencing this same issue.
