Is it a built-in function in some DAW?
I had an idea to script something like that in Reaper, sort of an Oblique Strategie - creativity booster like: "finish the track with just this random synth" or "just use a random effect from category"

"Chinese warez" has always been a real thing. They may have IP laws, but they do not even pretend to enforce them; and that is for physical items. They do not show up ever, or rarely; because just like you and other poster already mentioned, people are skeptical, or "paranoid" meaning security conscious and not about to install some really good malware. You're talking about stuff from behind The Great Firewall, not $200 Rolex copies in New York Chinatown or Shure SM7b's from eBay.

 

The interesting thing is if those warez can be verified and pass on to distributions outside of China, it would be quite a great breakthrough for a lot of libraries behind Spitfire's proprietary stuff with their own Player, yet they were never really given away and was just passed on as word-of-mouth to others and never explain anything else on how they even got to turn it into warez in the first place.

 

There are probably lots of people who are aware of it. If you do not care about intellectual property, are stuck using VPN for nearly anything at all and you are talking about big downloads; I think black market options might be pretty attractive. It's hard to imagine a shortage of crackers in a country with 1.5 billion population, that is often recipient of export controls. Lots of software gets caught up by that which is completely harmless, such as audio plugins. If there is demand, supply usually follows.

Export controls are often applied broadly, and companies tend to over-comply to avoid legal risk. For example, if a piece of software contains any encryption, even something basic like SSL or password hashing, it can technically fall under the EAR Category 5, Part 2 (Information Security) rules.

So a company might decide it’s safer to just block all downloads or sales to China (and a few other regions) rather than go through the export classification or licensing process. Sometimes it’s not even about the technology—it’s just legal or logistical caution, or an automatic block based on region.

You’ll see this a lot with audio plugins, developer tools, and even video game engines—nothing military or strategic about them, but still restricted under a blanket export policy.

I don't doubt that at all, but for the situation of BBC SO, it is essentially one of the big flagship products after SSO's revival along with Abbey Road bundles, and for size-to-quality comparison, SSO might be a good overall pick for ~340GB (and it's already cracked for Kontakt), but seeing how BBC SO Discovery alone gathered so much attention and favor from the free users (and it's only about 200MB), I do struggle to think that Pro wouldn't be in demand (or heck, even Core would be a major pickems for 27 GB of quality stuff without the excessive mic positions).

That is quite a bit of demand as far as I can see, yet neither made warez appearances since their release, which is weird to say the least.

I just checked, and it seems to be there. I can’t vouch for it completely, though, since I don’t want to go through almost 600 GB of data.
As always with these Chinese sites, they usually offer VIP access for a fee. You’ll also need a WeChat account or a cloud storage account (like 163.com or something like that dont remember the name), although some don’t require payment.
I used to get past the installation of these Chinese programs using Sandboxie, not to get some kind of malware but that was a long time ago. I don’t even remember what rare thing I needed back then. So, nothing is impossible.

And, of course, you’ll need some kind of translator extension if you don’t know Chinese

I have no idea where the Nexus 3 VR release having come from China became known to be the source of it. But I would gather that was probably a little harder to [k] than a Spitfire orchestral library. Or even easy to get all the libraries for.

Maybe I am missing the point of your question, or maybe I am not. Are you suggesting that "demand" has anything to do with what is shared?

It seems like "demanding" stuff is a sure fire way to not end up with it.

 

Went through mostly everything, there's only one open active link to an archive for BBC SO Pro soundbank (does have roughly 600 GB), which wouldn't work properly if there isn't a licensed version of the GUI Player to load in, so that's a dead end. Another one locked behind a premium wall, and the rest are also short-term dead ends on deprecated forum posts sadly. Was a good try though.

 

Oh no, I don't mean "demand" as people want it NOW, more of "there's a lot more interest for that product over the years", especially when Spitfire's starting to stuff in more of their more prestige libraries into their own Player ecosystem. As for a decent library, SSO serves its purpose well, albeit being quite heavy for my storage budget. Being patient enough will always bear fruit, so I'm not in such a rush
